I know I'm new around here but I just wanted to say Ben was awesome with communication... But that doesn't mean you people don't have to read before asking questions. It's all on page 1. Very straight forward

Default Needs Help

Here was my problem. I have now solved it. It seems the last time I had removed the door panel I had not properly installed the cluster of window switches and plugs correctly. Only unlock worked.

So, I'm having a little trouble getting the programming phase to work. I own a 2012 WRX, and I think I'm using the correct fob. There are two pictures below. I do open and close the door between turning the key to the one position 10 times, and starting the programming, and the long beep starts at that point. I get the car into programming mode just fine, but when I enter the first number on the drivers side door (using the lock side of the lock/unlock switch) and then press unlock (to signal the car that I've finished entering the first number) the beep doesn't end. I get 6 digits into the code and it fails everytime. Am I missing a step?

Are you pushing the lock and unlock buttons on the car? Not the ones on the remote. The remote is not used for this process at all. Leave it in the house. Just the buttons on the car. When the long tone is sounding it should stop when you push the button the first time.

Sounds like you're entering the code with the key fob instead of your door's lock/unlock button.

No no, I know. I am pressing it on the driver's side door. C'mon give me some credit here, lol.

Disregard all that guys. Sorry, the last time I had taken the door panel off, it seems I only had the unlock button working. It is all fixed and programmed. Much apologies.

That has been a common issue. This isn't a hard process, so either your car isn't working or you're making a simple mistake. Are you pushing the lock button? Does the lock button normally work to lock the doors? If both of those are "yes" then the tone should stop the first time you push lock. If it doesn't, then you're doing something wrong.

Maybe the plugs to the door lock harness are finicky? But I concur. Totally. And thanks again for putting this together.

Also, it isn't a hard process, but the beeping in the background can screw up the count, so when you have three 8's in a row, I found the best way to press the lock button the correct number of times is to count out loud. But I am ADH- oh look a butterfly! Lol.

What I'm saying is that it shouldn't be beeping in the background. The beeping should stop once you start (correctly) entering the code. Can you check that the door lock buttons are actually working when not in programming mode? I think there was one person that managed to blow a fuse during this process so it wouldn't work. Otherwise it's wiring or you're not doing something right.

Or maybe the fact that the door lock button won't work when the door is open (so you don't leave the key in)?

I had to do it with my door closed.

The door should be closed when you do this. It would be funny if that was really the issue, haha.

I already fixed it fellas. Nothing to worry about. It was just that the harness under the lock/unlock and window lock switch was screwed up. It programmed correctly without issue once I discovered the issue.

Wow. Weird. Checking if the door lock/unlock buttons function normally is a logical thing to check if you're having issues with this. I wouldn't expect it, but it's simple to check.

Ben, thanks so much. Got the fob today and programmed it up. Now I just have to find somewhere to get it cut!

This cutting process is harder than I thought! Trying to find a shop to do it, and having the confidence they will get it right.

Do you have to break the key in once it's cut, like a normal doorknob key?

It can be a bit tricky. Just take your time and go slow. And if you screw up, find someone to cut that blank blade!

Maybe in and out a few times depending on how well the blade was cut, but it shouldn't be too bad.

Anyone have pics of a few months of use? How is this case holding up to all the wear and tear of everyday life?
