this is usually not recommended, however you may not have issues, the older ECUs are fairly forgiving. it would be recommended to upgrade fuel pump, injectors, and get a tune... you might max out the MAF as well, can't remember offhand what MAF yours has (purple? green? orange?) and also depends what turbo you have? i assume TD04 unless its actually an STi then VF24

a WRX wagon would have a TD04 and an EJ20G (According to VIN plate), unless you have an STi.

According to this article in ESL tuning, even an eBay FMIC will "liberate about 10% more HP". They recommend tuning to MAP out the lag (like you said), but if you look at the boost duty map, they don't touch the top end, just the lag at the bottom end. It also mentions that you can run it on stock 440s, so again, sounds like lag is the only issue.

i was thinking the exact problem i would run into without a tune would be Big lag thatz about it with no tune ? i can live with that...as long as i dont make my motor knock im quite happy to put on a fmic.....the turbo is a vf22 so lag is already gay like starts to make boost at 3100

thanks for the help guys.... fmic here i come 😀

No problem. Post about your results whenever you get it installed! I have the same set up waiting to go on my 20K
