Default Need someone to look at my turbo....who do you guys suggest/trust?

So here's the deal....I bought a VF39 off of a member here that needs a little work (which I knew about when I bought it...no biggie). Basicly, there is some oil residue on the exhaust side blades and I was told it was a small ring (like a psiton ring or something along those lines) that needs to be replaced/put back and it would be no big deal. There is a tiny (and I mean tiny) amount of shaft play which we have concluded may be due to the sealant ring being off.

I called Tommy at TC.com (because the seller and some reputable NASIOC members said he would be the guy to talk to) and he said that minimum work on a turbo starts at $275!!!! I was also told by the seller and other members that this should cost no more than $100 to fix.

I know we don't necessarily trust TC.com, but I figured since there was nothing too terribly wrong, that they would be cool to work on it....but not starting at $275 (I bought the turbo for $200 and it's been machined on the inlet side for smoother air flow)!

Where would you guys suggest taking this? Or who should I be talking to? I've heard some good things about Kingpin doing it for about $100.

Any help would be appreciated. I'm trying to get ready for my turbo swap, but I need this taken care of ASAP.

Thanks TXIC!

I've read a lot of good things about the Deadbolt shop guy (don't know what his name is)... he refurbs turbos and warranties the work, IIRC.

TC.com worked on my turbo and for $275.00 they will rebuild it and warranty the work.
I trust them on turbo work, dyno's not as much.

See if you can talk them down a bit.

Thanks for the suggestions...I already got a PM out to Kingpin. Need to get the Deadbolt number to see what they can do. I prefer talking to people instead of PM's or emails. Less personal. Anyway, I'll see what I can find out about this

$275 just seems real high to me at this point. I know I'm probably lowballing, but I'm a poor college kid. Hell, if I thought I could do it on my own I would, but then again, a warranty does sound nice. $275 for work on a turbo I bought for $200 We'll see, I've spoken to a couple of guys who had turbo work like this done and said that they were charged about $100. I know I'm still getting a decent overall deal, but I still need injectors and an FMIC to finish off the project.

A little OT: How hard is it to mod the stock WRX injectors?
