Default 2002 WRX OEM gear set

I have a set of gears that I just pulled out of a 2002 WRX OEM transmisison. I replaced the gears with a set of STi V6 Ra gears. The shafts need to be rebuilt with new syncros. Other than that, they are in great shape. The first $150 plus shipping takes them!

I replaced them for a set of RA gears I had lying around my garage. I broke a shift fork in the transmission so it was going to be rebuilt in any case so I threw the RA gear set back in. These gears are fine other than needing syncros. They would be great for somoene who blew 1st or 2nd and don't want to spend the $1500 on a set of aftermarkets. I was told by the rebuilder that the gear set did look modified but the only thing I can tell is that the first gear looks a bit more stout than stock. Could be a redesign?

The typical grind from 3-4, which could've been caused by the shift fork going bad and it was a bit difficult to engage first if not at a complete stop. If I were to reuse them, I would throw in a new set of syncros, especially since a complete set of syncros will run less than $200.

How hard would it be to install these yourself? Are there any write up's on rebuilding the gear box? This is mostly for my own learning experince.

To rebuild the gear set you would need a 2000 lb. press and a few Subaru specific press tools of which I don't own so I leave it for the guys who have the tools. It isn't difficult but you really need to know what you are doing before attempting this kind of job.

The syncros can be purchased from www.subaruparts.com.
