Well, not all 50 people drink coffee, but many would drink more than 1 cup per day, so I figure ~50 cups per day (especially once you get really good coffee in there). Imo, you need a commercial rated machine, which will cost over $1k.
This would be the top choice, and way above your stated budget, but...it will outlast and outperform other options. Yes, it's $2700 or something, but it's a beast, and would likely require very little care and maintainance for some time. http://www.chriscoffee.com/products/...monzasuperauto A more typical option would be this: http://www.wholelattelove.com/Saeco/...ar.cfm?conid=7 And I can see if Astra can give me a deal for you, but I think theirs are significantly more than the above two options. I will ask tomorrow. |

We used saecos at my office. Quite mediocre but better than nothing or stale coffee from the morning.

A machine can only be as good as the coffee in the hopper. And people rarely regulate the grind, which is pretty damn important.

As for the grind, I was told you could go better, if you were happy with the machine breaking down every other month. As it stood it was a once a year maintenance. I fuxored it up my first month when I tampered with the grind setting.. I think my point was more to the effect of more commercial is better if you are doing the 50 cups a day. BUT then again I think I was the only person in the office who thought the Saeco average. Everyone else loved it. |

I agree there. And yeah, a tight grind would increase the wear and tear for sure.

Vietnamese ice coffee with bubbles. Super strong espresso like front side with a sweat end that balances it out. Soooooo goooooood. |

If its too sweet it's being made wrong. I like black coffee and find the legit Vietnamese coffee to be way stronger with a nice sweet backside.
The people I run across that don't like it dislike how strong it is. Although I do have to say, the last year or two all the Vietnamese places like Cafes and deli shops have started to make them too sweet. Trying to appeal to the Americans I guess. Same for star bucks. Latte is now steamed milk with a touch of coffee. |

How will you brew it if you buy a grinder and beans? If you just want a drip option, there are bunn and fetco options that would do the job for you.

The fetco single brewer is $1600+. It's a pretty kick ass unit, which top cafes use, and you'd still need to buy a grinder, so that closes the par between the fetco and monza. As for grinders, you'll need a commercial grinder. A home grinder won't cut it. A bunn is $600-800, a ditting is over $1k. Or this: http://www.chriscoffee.com/products/...portiongrinder |

The astra retails for $7k. I could get a discount, but won't bother asking as it's still way beyond, haha.

moving from a blade grinder to a conical burr (capresso infinity) has made a HUGE difference in my coffee.
for my press, i'm use a lot less beans and getting a much better cup. espresso...no comparison, it's world better. honestly, when my old burr grinder broke (just a cheap cuisinart) i basically stopped using my espresso machine because using the blade grinder to try to make an espresso grind was futile. back to pulling pretty shots |

To poison and other more "expert" than I. Recently (9 days ago) moved to Alabama from Ohio (ya, both are sucky, but the wife keeps getting incredible offers from universities to do research) and I have started getting odd patterns in my puck and the coffee tastes different. Does this look like channeling to you?
And, if so, how do I fix it? Finer grind? Coarser grind? Darker roast? Lighter roast? To remind, I am roasting in basically an air-popper and grinding with a commercial Rancilio MD-50 and brewing with the cheapest Gaggia from WholeLatteLove. |
