Smile Central Washington Mini-meet/Drive - June 8th

June 8th, 3pm meeting at Rossow's U-TOTE-EM in Ellensburg

FRS radios channel 10 code 7, that's 10 - 7

Please Sticky

Hello all,

Here we go. No longer planning, let's make this happen!

The group shouldn't be too big since everyone will be burnt out from doing the Olympic cruise (I am too) so hopefully we won't get in any trouble, but I'll tell ya guys now I'm not taking any responsibility for anything that goes down.

All I can say is:

1) Keep up with the group
2) Don't drive crazy
3) DO NOT SPEED

I'm going to keep it within reasonable levels of speed for the trip since I know the area like the back of my hand.

If we take it easy they shouldn't give us trouble.

Now, the route won't be anything real special (nothing like the twisties up at Oly) but we'll still have fun

Here's the plan:

We meet at Rossow's U-tote-EM at 3PM in Ellensburg

Leave Rossow's at 3:30 or 4 depending on when everyone shows up.

The first leg will take us down the old Highway from Ellensburg to Cle Elum. From there we'll go through South Cle Elum, past Peoh Point, down to Thorp and back to Ellensburg.

Then, I'm hoping to roll into Rossow's again at around 6pm or so, just in time for dinner! We can either eat there (dunno if they'll be open) or somewhere else in Fabulous Downtown Ellensburg.

That's the plan for now.

Here's my lame attempt at some maps:

Ellensburg

Mid

Cle Elum

As you can see, it's not much of a drive, but it'll be a fun cruise anyway We will be going Counter-Clockwise around this loop (anti-clockwise for you euro types).

To Get to Rossow's U-tote-EM

Eastbound I90:

Get off on the First Ellensburg Exit (can't remember what else it says), should be #106
Keep going straight over the overpass, and straight at the stop sign.
The road will go over train tracks and curve to the right.
Go straight down the straightaway and Rossow's U-tote-EM will be on your left. It's a little drive in with a big neon (it's teh fastAr) sign that says "BURGERS"... hard to miss really.

Westbound I90:

Get off at the SECOND Ellensburg exit (should be #106) and turn right. Then, follow the instructions above.

And for anyone coming over Snoqualmie, Denny Creek/Asahel Curtis is open if you want a little twisty fun on the way

Denny Creek/Asahel Curtis is the last exit before you start climbing Snoqualmie.

It's the last overpass, where all the Cops sit trying to catch people speeding the 65 change.

Going eastbound you get off the exit, turn left, and then turn right. then, there's a road off to the left right after an overpass IIRC and you go up it.

Takes you all the way up the mountain and dumps you out by I90 again at the summit (by the Pancake House).

Cool. After work I'm going to make up some maps so you guys can see the route I'm planning.

It'll be alot of fun, trust me!

I'm thinking we can start and stop at Rossow's U-TOTE-EM, since they're a great local hamburger joint, they've got a big lot and don't mind people using it. It's not as central a starting point for my route as say Perkins, but it's MUCH MUCH better food. The problem is I dunno how late or if they're open on Saturdays/Sundays so that might make a difference.

We need suggestions on dates/times/days on when everyone can make a trip over the pass.

Most importantly, coasties are welcome!

Hm, do you know more about this TSD? If it's around here I might get in it

Dates are very liquid, it's up to whatever works for everyone.

Can't let Erik be the only one from this area (ya know, travel in pairs for safety and all!?!?). Depending on the schedule and if I've got the days off, that sounds like fun.

You can find out more about the tsd on the rainier auto sports homepage. It is called no alibi. The entry fee is kind of steep but other than that it sounds like alot of fun. I participated in this clubs touring rally last weekend and had a lot of fun.

Since there's no real good maps, I'm going to be drawing one. Would you guys just prefer directions or are maps better?

If anyone has some kind of road trip software that showes forest service roads, that would be helpful as well.

We'll have to figure out something.

As for the meet/drive, what does everyone think about June?

Like June 7th or 8th?

Yeah, I'm busy sunday mornings too so here's what I'm planning now.

Sunday, June 8th at 3pm at Rossow's U-TOTE-EM. If everything goes right that should put us back in Ellensburg for dinner.

This sound good for everyone?

Someone needs to pin this.

That's Campus U-TOTE-EM. They're the same place (same owner I believe) but the one by the campus isn't the one I'm talking about.

Well, actually, there's a U-TOTE-EM either way you go from Jack In The Box

Campus is to the right about a mile, and Rossow's is to the left about a mile. You'd go left from the Jack light and the road curves to the right and you go for a little ways and you'll see Rossow's. It's a big drive in.

I'll get detailed directions and etc. before the meet. I'm still working on maps or directions for the drive

You mean Red Horse? The place across from the new Nissan "dealership"?

I've been there a couple times. Pretty good food!
