Default One of my Coworkers wrecked his ARCA circuit car on speed...

http://www.thebusplace.com/motorsports/index.html

Barry is is our GSA contract guy at work.. Guy behind him clipped his back bumper coming out of the turn and he high-sided.. The windshield came off and he said his car filled with at least a foot of dirt before he started rolling again. came out completely fine and was at work this week without a scratch..

Hopefully it wasn't the crews yelling at each other, that never makes sense to me.

That wouldn't have happened if the car was also designed to turn right. Artificially modifying the car so it's CoG is as far left as possible so it can take left turns better will do that. It's called physics.

Thanks for the video. I enjoyed it.

then again a car designed to turn right wouldn't have a chance at being competitive..

glad you liked it..

The car is designed to turn right, its setup to turn left because thats what the course involves. Do you not think that road racing cars aren't setup the same way?

Ooooh, trying to make a point using semantics. Clever AND original. Awesome. But I digress.

Are road racing cars setup with their CoG shifted so far one way or the other that they are unable to corner in their 'non-dominant' direction without flipping over? Corner-unbalance, yo!

Somebody here doesn't watch much sportscar racing at all.

To a certain extent it depends on the course. Not to the point of flipping if they have to turn but they'll throw a setup on the car that makes it next to impossible to turn one direction if the course is dominantly one way (roval and Lime Rock). I know more than a few Koni/Conti teams doing that at the Iowa Race a couple of years ago. Gave up a second or more in the right turns but was overall MUCH faster with the crazy setup. They would have weighted the car that way if they could have.

Agreed. For example, on a clockwise track, the majority of corners are right handed. Obviously, you'd generally want to shift the CoG to the right. Nothing shocking about that. The fact that NASCAR vehicles are setup so they flip when turned in the other direction is what irks me. Setting up a car that understeers when turned in the other direction is much much! safer than one that starts doing barrel rolls...

Are the ARCA cars set up like the 2010 Cup cars with that ridiculously huge fin on the left side of the rear window? The video talks about having "so many" cars roll over this week. Wonder if there's some aero issue NASCAR didn't find in testing.

And by "son of a 3X WDC" is that Piquet Jr? I thought he was in trucks.

Well then some one should tell LMP car manufactures to stop making there car take off any time they get sideways at high speed.
