Cool 2019 WRX Limited CVT

I have been painfully agonizing over what to do with my new ride. I had an 2017 STI and basically was sick of shifting. I am 49 now so I have been doing it for far to long in too much traffic. Anyway I did not do my research before trading mine for the CVT and now am concerned with killing the tranny. I don't want to go that fast, but I would like to get maybe 350hp out of the car. I am so torn as this point as to keep it or trade it on on something true and tested. Then I saw your thread. It kind of gives me a little hope that I can pull it off. I think I will buy the transmission cooler and bypass the stock cooler as you have mentioned. I live in Florida so heat is a big issue. My plan now is to do the upgrade and put 5K miles on the car and then do the full flush. I have the ODB sensors and an android tablet mounted in the front with torque pro. I am going to grab a new Android head unit because the factory premium head unit is trash. Very glitchy!! I just swapped my Iphone X phone for a new Android to see if android works better than Apple. I will let you know and throw some pics up when I finish the first set of stuff. Thank you for being so thorough and on point with your journey! It was an amazing read.....Scharlo

Glad you enjoyed the thread. It is possible to successfully add power to the high torque cvt. As you have probably seen, a cooler for the cvt is very important. Also flushing the fluid once in a while especially with higher power and in warmer environments. Take your time and find a tuner who knows the cvt well. Its not so cookie cutter like on a manual. Always feel free to pm me. You can also find us on facebook, search Subaru CVT Owners Group. Cheers

Newest addition: Suma Performance Heated Convex Mirrors

They are heated

Link to product page:
https://www.sumaperformance.com/coll...5-17-crosstrek

Not a stick on like most of the competition. Full replacement of OEM. Good fit. Easy Install.

Install:
Tilt mirror so you can see under it. Use painters tape on mirror and on the plastic bottom edge of mirror housing to protect surfaces. Finally use a plastic removal tool to gently pop the mirror off. There are four connections however two are the clip on ones.
The two connectors for heating elements are on the side closer to the car. I put a small piece of painters tape on the outer connector to know which one is which before I removed the oem mirror. Once mirror is off you do the reverse with the suma mirror. Took me less than 10 minutes.

Opinion:
I am very pleased with these mirrors. The blue hue is just right. Not too dark - does not interfere in any way. I am yet to test at night but at the moment I have enjoyed them a lot. Good extra visibility - of course mainly on the drivers side. Maybe a placebo but the image looks sharper on the mirrors. Much improved field of view on the drivers side - no need for blind spot mini mirrors - I do not have a blind spot detector (2015 model), now with the suma mirrors there really is no worry. Color matches my DGM nicely.

I would definitely recommend.

Extra:
There are various setups you can purchase. I purchased version with heating element only. There is also version with turn signals inside the mirror etc.

I absolutely loved my blue heated convex mirrors on my BRZ. Glad to see the WRX finally has some good ones 5 years later.

Hey Bellipotens, I've read that when tuning the wrx cvt, a key variable is making sure to not have too much low end tourque in the tune. Do you know if there is a threshold, either based on wtq, rpms, or both, not to exceed in a tune? E.g. "Keep wtq below 300 below 3,000 rpm," or "tune however you want above 2,500 rpm but keep more conservative below." Thanks for any insight.

I also have blue tinted convex mirrors on my car and like them a lot. Looks good and better vision.

I am very pleased with the amsoil synthetic CVT fluid that is rated for the high torque CVT (TR690).

A small addition but in my opinion worth it and does make a difference

Silicone License Plate Frame

Link to product:

https://www.amazon.com/License-Plate.../dp/B07SNS4X46

Nicely hugs the entire license plate around the edges.
Will protect the paint from the license plate as it covers all around.

Make sure to install with the drain holes pointing down (are found on one of the long edges of the cover to allow water to escape)

Very pleased with this product. Good quality and very easy install.
Enjoying the look. Small thing but makes me happy

Happy Holidays and a Happy 2020 to all

Wishing everyone exciting and safe drives, new parts and/or new projects,
plenty of time with family and of course peace and health.

Car is doing really well. I am mainly focusing now on continued good maintenance.
CVT is cooled well and the cvt fluid looks superb (Amsoil CVT fluid), no slipping or leaks.
Car is just amazing and continues to put a smile on this manual transmission drivers face.
No real big projects as of yet but you never know what might happen in 2020

I’m glad to see someone with a CVT is pushing 310hp. I’m about to get a 2020 WRX cvt any pointers for the first mod I should get done?

Happy 2020!

We always celebrate the first day of the new year by taking a walk on the beach.
The beast also gets to open up its lungs
Love this car - Can't believe I drove it off the lot in NH at end of March 2014

Hey Marcin,
Just wanted to say thank you for being one of the few helpful and knowledgeable WRX owners during the time I’ve had my WRX. I created a FB to join that WRX CVT but the admins deny my admission so I popped in here to say my thanks!

Happy Belated Birthday! I have followed and enjoyed your thread and am a fellow WRX CVT owner. I'll probably be keeping mine stock since I rack up the miles pretty quickly, but it's nice to see your car has held up well over the past six years.

The CVT gets a lot of bad press especially in the car mags and on the forums, but I think Subaru's version is much better than most other manufacturers' attempts. I feel like too many are quick to judge and dismiss the transmission before really giving it a chance.

Thank you. As for the Subaru htcvt... I agree. Nissan does not even touch it close. Specifically the TR690 found in the turbo models as well as the new ascent and legacy/outback XT.
