News Project Car: The Rarest Subaru Model in the US ... the 1970 FF-1 Coupe

I couldn't believe this popped up over on USMB the other day at a junkyard in northern California, and I lucked out and happened to be close enough to save it (courtesy Darrell AKA wooknwood, who volunteered to pickup the car and drive it here with his flatbed!)

I only know of a handful of FF-1s still in existence in the U.S, even fewer than the old Subaru 360's and much MUCH more rare than any other 1970's model Subaru.

If you would like to know more about the FF-1, here is an article about one that SOA has stored in their "attic":
http://drivev2.dcim.com/sum06_attic.aspx?page=4#ff

So anyhow, here are pictures...

Feel free to ignore the P.O.S. that someone spray painted on the trunk long before I purchased it

I plan on updating this thread with more pictures and information as I go...

Tomorrow I'll start cleaning out the interior and maybe give it a bath, it definitely needs some simple cleaning right now to see what kind of work it needs.

Eventually, the goal is to get it to look somewhat like this:

I unloaded it, took photos, and covered it up in case it rains tonight

I wont be trying to start it anytime soon... Needs a battery, a oil lid, changing out all the fluid, and THEN I can see if it will start.

Depends on what it needs

It will need MAJOR body work due to rust, and the interior looks completely un-salvageable... So I might have to go total custom rather than an actual restoration

Your interior scares the living @#%&* out of me.

Hope to see this thing up and running. Might be a little different than what nasioc is use to seeing, but still a cool suby none the less.

^ I second that. Scares me too, looks like a crime scene. I don't envy the work you are going to have to do!

Your "goal" car is pretty nice though!

That car is very very rough even by restoration project standards. I hope your really good with body work, and especially good with clean custom fabrication.
