My question, then, is.......what if Subaru makes a "hatch"/shorter wagon, or whatever someone wants to call it, along side the Levorg. How will they be categorized then?

I'll use an example. I don't know how Nissan labels their Versas; but, we got the "sedan" and "hatch" here in the states. In Japan, they also got one that was/is CLEARLY a "wagon". How are we to distinguish them?

And will some search master fly way back in time and find where the switch to the "5 door" was actually referred to as "hatch"? I remember seeing it. I just can't remember who said it. I am pretty sure it was in reference of WRC and part of the reason Subaru had gone to the style
Ford used to make sedan, hatchback and wagon versions of the focus all at the same time - they called them, you guessed it, sedans, hatchbacks and wagons. If Subaru had three body styles of the same model they would likely do the same thing.

Wait, what? Is this a serious question? 5 door (Impreza) and wagon (Levorg). It's not like this hasn't existed or doesn't currently exist in the market. Jetta/Golf in Sedan, Hatch, and Wagon. The parts website doesn't matter. It uses categories to distinguish body styles within the same carline.

If SOA ever used hatch starting with the 2008 MY, it would have been an accident or unsanctioned. They used 5 Door while other English speaking markets mostly switched to hatch or hatchback. Australia has hatch for the Impreza and sportwagon for the Levorg. UK has hatchback for the Impreza and estate for the Levorg.

Oh yeah. It's a serious question for those saying the current 5 door Impreza is a "wagon". Can't say I've ever referred to it as a wagon. Pretty much been 5 door and if I did slip, it was hatchback.

So we're talking about what Subaru calls it versus what it is in reality?

This is almost as bad as coupe sedans.

This has been hashed out many times over the past +10 years. It's still a hatchback even if Subaru wants to call it a 5 door and some here want to call it a wagon.

I'm not cutting Subaru any slack just because they're too lazy to update their internal systems from "wagon" or "WGN" to "5dr". I'll cut them slack when they stop using enthusiasts to make their brand look exciting, but continue denying warranties left and right despite knowingly having crappy factory tunes.

Heck yeah ! But, rumor has it FB16DIT is a goner.
Replaced by a 150-hp / 180 ft.lb 1.5L DIT mill (supposedly).
And, across most of Europe, FB16DIT has been pulled out from Levorg; now equipped with our favorite 150-hp FB20.
So, at this point, Levorg is slower than a 5-door Impreza .

Does the FB16DIT not exist in the Levorg, or am I missing something?

Maybe in Australia and Japan only now? And maybe in some of the other micro markets Subaru is selling Levorg in...
But, it's pretty much done in Europe; replaced by FB20.

The new Levorg is coming with the new 1.8L turbo engine (FB18DIT?) so the FB16DIT could be dead.

Jaguar?? I'm ashamed for them.

Would NOT trade my Impreza for that thing... for all reasons.

And compared to the Levorg it's a joke. It's clear that Subaru has really come up in the world, while others are still looking for their mojo.

The XF Sportbrake is larger than Levorg; riding on a nearly 117" wheelbase.
It's just a bigger car all around and maybe it's not a bad thing for people looking to get something a little bit more accommodating.
Since we can't get Levorg here, I think a used Sportbrake is at least a real alternative.

2020 Volvo V60 Cross Country T5 AWD wagon should be considered. If you can get it for $40k or less, and swap the suspension with the regular V60 wagon, you'd be set.

I don't think a lowered V60 CC would look good with the cladding. It actually has good proportions and an even wheel gap all around (not outback like lift).

I forgot about the cladding until right after I posted. Lol I definitely agree.

True. These things are heavy; they use aluminum bits underneath for the suspension but that doesn't seem to help much.
I was just as surprised as you to find out that the lightest V60 sits at 4000 lbs.
The heaviest sits at 4250 lbs; that just as heavy as my Dodge Charger RT landyacht/whale .
It seems to me they built a super beefy chassis for XC90 (double wishbone / SLA in the front, multilink in the rear, super rigid) and then you just get the same for everything else, weight and all.
The weight difference between the heaviest AWD V60 and the lightest FWD XC90 is only 200 lbs. Not much, IMO.
And, yeah, they are overpriced. But, that B&W sound system though .
