Default 2021 Mercedes C-Class

Mercedes-Benz is prepping a new generation C-Class, expected to be unveiled later this year as the successor to the W205, which has been in production since 2014.

The camouflage has started to come off, with prototypes of the premium compact sedan now showing more of that sleek styling inspired by the larger E-Class and S-Class sedans. The exterior changes include redesigned lighting units, new grille and bumpers.

Changes are more obvious inside, where earlier scoops have revealed a restyled dashboard, with new infotainment system, HVAC controls and digital dials, as well as round air vents and a fresh steering wheel. Expect the finest leather upholstery options with contrast stitching, alongside ambient lighting and other features that will make longer journeys more pleasant.

The fifth generation C-Class will be underpinned by an evolved version of the rear-wheel-drive MRA platform, which supports different powertrains, including electrification. Thus, the car should arrive with a plug-in hybrid option, alongside the usual petrol and diesel offerings, and perhaps some mild hybrid powertrains.

As usual, the lineup will be completed by the top-of-the-line C63 and C63 S Mercedes-AMG variants, which should launch in 2022, according to a previous report.

When they do, chances are they will drop the current V8 for the 2.0-liter turbo’d lump used by the modern ’45’ range, which could deliver in excess of 500 horsepower thanks to electrification. Until official confirmation arrives, we would take this rumor with a pinch of salt, though.

The first body style to debut is believed to be the four-door sedan, likely followed by the estate. Next year, Mercedes should also uncover the Coupe and Cabrio variants of the car, as well as the rugged All-Terrain jacked-up wagon that will take on the Audi A4 Allroad and Volvo V60 Cross Country.

I wonder how much the photographer paid the employee to take off the in-car camo.
