Just race. I car-hopped enough last year that I didn't qualify for any class trophies, but I still qualified for the overall PAX.

And more importantly, any seat time is good seat time.

I only have one set of wheels. If I put them on, it will rain the whole time at Tanacross. If I leave the Star Specs on it will be sunny and 80* the whole time

Time to pick up more wheels dude. That is about to become the new paradigm, even at auto x. Race wheels and DD wheels, even rain wheels, if necessary.

Yeah I'm discovering that star specs suck for daily driving, especially in this city. Hopefully I can manage a track set next year.

Dunno, I don't daily drive my racing car. If it wasn't for the cold and rain I would just leave the A6s on it.

? I dont see how they would suck for daily driving? Also I hope you wouldnt put these on a dedicated track wheels, Its a hassle switching over as it is race morning and before you drive home. At least upgrade to some real race rubber if you go down this path.

Well yeah, they just seem to follow the road very aggressively. Like they pull hard toward every little rut and crack. These are 18"s anyway so I will be selling them after this season.

arent you rocking spacers.... thats what is doing it not the tire, awd cars with offsets other than stock tend to pull around in the ruts ect.

Damn,I was hoping that wasn't the cause. So even just a wheel with a +40 offset would have the same affect?

When I run my summers, 245/40-17 Bridgestone RE-11 they do the same thing. You just have to get use to it. Its a trade off for the awesome grip and extreme confidence at high speeds.

Agree with ya. The star specs shouldn't be too bad for daily driving. And when you progress to a set of "track rubber", it was easier to swap them over the night before at home and drive to the event on them. I began hating having to lug them to the event, and the hassle's it brang. (missed walk through, was always late leaving after event, etc.. )

Depending on the ruts, it may not be an issue with your setup at all.

I've been on a few streets in Los Anchorage that have caused an 80,000lb tractor and trailer to "tramline". There's a few spots on the Glenn and Parks that do it as well.

Star specs have always been fantastic tires. When the Z1 hit the market, it was regarded highly and has remained so. I've been through 2 sets and am working on my 3rd. I agree that they pull into ruts and follow cracks but I believe that is what an aggressive compound tire does on the stuff they call asphalt around south-central roads.

Time marches on. With the Rivals and Z2 star specs coming in, the Z1s seem to be relegated to 3rd place of late.

I haven't tried those newer tires yet. I've managed two championships against very good competitors the last two autocross seasons on the old star specs and I'll be there today at Bartlett on them.

Gonna save the race rubber for proper temperatures if and when they arrive.

It's not the tires or offset that is making dart and follow the ruts. It is the alignment! I ran an aggressive offsett 265/35-18 nto5 on the EVO X and it drove great. Absolutely no tracking in the ruts.

My accord with 225/45/17 Potenza tires, lowered and with a correct alignment would still grab in the ruts and get thrown around. It could just be different variables depending on the vehicle+tire+offset+suspension that dictates what each car does.

What would an AutoX n00b need/cost to participate in the remaining events?

About $35 per event and thats really all you "have" to have. They have loaner helmets.
