Factory Battery is Garbage
I went to start my WRX after it sat for about 10 days and the battery was too low to start the car. It is now on a trickle-charger and should hopefully be fine but seeing how the factory Subaru battery says 7 years on it makes me wonder if these batterys are just complete and utter garbage to begin with? (my car is 30 months old)
Remember the Triple-Meter gaudge pod forgetting it settings during cold weather issue? I feel like it has to do with the battery falling below a certain voltage during cold-cranking which resets the memory in the gauge pod cluster. Has anyone replaced their factory battery with a GOOD brand and still have that Triple-Meter issue happen? And yes I'll be hitting up my dealership and hopefully get a free battery out of this but I'm not even sure it is part of the 36-mo warranty. If not I'll buy my own elsewhere. If I replace the battery I'll report back with my Triple-Meter findings but just wondering if anyone else already has.

I'm at 26 months, and I can tell from the cranking in the morning the battery is starting to go. The sad part is, my last subaru's battery lasted 7 years. (Daily both)
In any case, I have a battery waiting for delivery. Deka Intimidator. It suppose to be a good AGM battery that is relatively inexpensive. I paid $150 shipped. I'll let you know how it goes, however I never experienced triple gauge resets. In fact, when I disconnect my battery to do random installs...my triple gauge never changes. |

Deka batteries are amazing, you wont be disappointed. I used them for off grid solar powered microwave repeaters

Swapped to an Optima YT last month. Couldn't be happier and my car is thankful. OEM battery died on me 3 times under 1 year warranty. Replaced it, but didn't want to take the same chance.
No parasitic draw FYI, and no amp/sub. Just hella horns. |

One year of age. Drive it everyday. Five days a week, its 45 miles round trip to work. No problems so far, but I agree they cheaped out on the battery. I only checked one website (Autozone), but their cheapest battery ($70+a $15 core charge) had more cold cranking amps (CCA) than our's but was only warrantied for 3 months. A little more expensive battery ($122 + a $18 core charge) had 640 CCA and was warrantied for 5 years. But, Subaru sold us a car for about 30 grand that's all wheel drive, gets 30mpg calculated on the freeway at 70mph (with the cruise set & w/o ethanol), it runs the 1/4 mile in the high 13 second range at about 100mph, and corners approaching a gee with decent summer performance tires. The seats are comfortable enough for consecutive 700 mile days at my advanced age and the 16 GB flashdrive for the USB port holds 50 albums worth of music and is only 1/3 full; I just ran out of music (I'm buying more, chuckling out loud). The next one is also cool but of limited practicality, the speed limiter kicks in a 144mph. I'm not trying to be the troll, but even a new short block from Hueberger (Colorado Springs in case I spelled it wrong) is only $1800 or so. Yeah, it may cost ten grand for your local dealer to swap engines for you if you blow it up but maybe you and your buddies can do the work. This is my first Subaru at 61 years of age, but damn! Maybe I'll buy another when this one wears out.

Mine left me stranded before work (and I'm in one of those professions you can't really be late for.)
Ran to autozone, bought the best battery they had, and had Subaru foot the bill. EDIT: Should be noted that my dealer told me I "HAVE" to have the car towed there so they can inspect it. So I told them I "HAVE" to call SoA and they took care of me. |

I just replaced my battery after 2 years as well. The stock batter is like 375 CCV which is pretty low imo.

if you guys are looking to upgrade batteries, check out the duracell agm's. they are made by deka and have almost double the cca of stock. i put one in my old 2011 wrx and it cranked dramatically faster in the cold. its the same as the die hard platinum, just a lot cheaper.

My 17 WRX came with a Panasonic Battery, but I did change it to BOSCH as soon as I could.
This cars are well made, but they have their cheap stuff here and there ... |

Maybe a dumb question. For those of us that are tuned, when you change the battery do you have to reload your tune from the ap?

I'd like to know too. The ECU should retain the custom tune but I'm not sure if there's some kind of idle learning procedure on these cars.

Disconnecting the battery for a few minutes while you change it out won't remove the tune, but it will reset the ECM learning...SC

What is? The battery being crap or the triple-meter forgetting its settings?
Do 2016+ owners have that triple-meter problem? Its very annoying to have to stop the vehicle, go to settings, reset the gauges every single morning. |

Went dead while pumping gas
Car ('15 wrx 25k mi) started fine after sitting overnight. Went to the gas station with my fiancé, and turned the car off but left the radio on for her while i pumped gas. Got back in and tried to turn it on, nothing but a few clicks, didn't even attempt to turn over...just dead. Got a jump start and then the dash lit up like a Christmas tree....hobbled it home as it was acting very strange with the shifts and throttle response. Is this strictly battery related or have people experienced other related issues?
