uhm ok.... but I think most of those questions people are just asking for a ballpark figure/answer etc. If they take it seriously thats their mistake...

Obviously these questions get annoying sense they are posted so much, but this is a fourm, and people are asking cuz they just want other people's opinions. I think these type of questions may best be put in the regional forums though

It's ok if people ask these questions once or twice, but when you see the same thing 4-5 times a week, it gets really annoying. Yes it's an online forum, but no, we are not here to wipe your butt. Sometimes you have to do some research on your own.

agreed, and I have seen some excellent advice offered through my own regional forum on these very topics.

agreed:
- SEARCH for the answers in the regional forum before posting
- take the offered suggestions/opinions with a grain of salt since each situation is unique

- after doing your own research, post useful information on the regional forum regarding these topics, especially if you find something has changed locally - for better or worse

My subaru is going 120mph east bound for 10 minutes and an EVO is going 100mph southbound for 15 minutes, If we meet each other at an intersection to race, how far away was I from that intersection and how far away was he??? Will my WRX win??? What about an SRT-4? Who is faster???
Should I get Car A or car B?
but what if..... *Bang*
Dont make me shoot you.

Ya know, there is an answer to that question, its just that most people who ask it, don't actually want to hear it, and take it off anyway.

Nice work Una!!!!!

You may want to include that an 02/03 with an 04/05 front end swap looks just like a 04/05...gasp! You don't need a stinkin' thread to see what it will look like.

no offense but this post comes off like you have a stick in your ass. a car forum is a place to talk about cars, but you make it sound like we shouldn't never ever post a new thread but instead just search the historical archives because some post, somewhere, sometime was made that relates in some way to whatever it is that needs answering. everyone gets sick of newbies, sure, but everyone was a newbie at one point in time.

cliffs notes: you don't like those posts? DON'T READ THEM

yo... in case you missed it, Unibomber has created most of the FAQs in the various sections of this site and they're very welcomed and a fantastic addition to this community and all its various forums.

Cliff notes: you don't like Unibombers posts? Don't read them.. but don't be mad when you ask a question that's covered in the faq.. that's what they're there for.

Unibomber... got another one for you...

i know he has, and they are very helpfull. but let me ask you this: do you come here solely as a place to look up answers or do you come here to talk about cars? i've been on car boards for years and years (i know big whoop) but i do it because.... guess what i like to talk about cars.

oh yeah not to mention that over time information changes. for instance i can search for a boost controller thread and get one from 2002 that says they are the bestest thing to ever happen to subaru but i might find an active topic where everyone's opinion has changed

No offense to you, but Unabomber is a newbie's best friend around here. Like KC said, he has dedicated countless hours to organizing most if not all of the pertinent information that a subaru owner could ever hope for. He is never short with anyone and has been nothing but extremely helpful to everyone. I tip my hat to him.

Remember... everytime someone creates a new thread asking about issues that have already been addressed, the board gets cluttered and the search engine becomes less and less effective. If people would just read the sticky posts, chances are that 95% of the questions they have would be answered without the need for new threads.

cripes you guys i'm not saying that unabomber is a bad guy. i don't think he is, and i'm not trying to discredit him either. as a matter of fact i remember once upoin a time contributing to his coolant thread in the maintenance forum and he was pleased with my findings. i do however think that the tone of his post is such that he's a guy who's been on the board for years and is sick of seeing the same topics over and over. i can understand that, but seriously, there are not an infinite number of original things to say about the subaru impreza.

stickies and faq's are great tools but they only go so far as each situation or individual has the potential to be a little bit different. plus, i'll say it again, i visit car forums because i like to talk about cars. none of my friends are into cars so these places are like my haven

The genesis behind my post is strictly the questions that cannot be answered. If you read the questions in my lengthy post, you will see there is not correct answer for any of them. We come here for correct answers, and in the case of ambiguity, discussion. The questions in my first post really have no answer in my opinion. I really doubt this post will stop them from appearing though. This post is as much a vent as it is information.

I enjoy interaction as well. I groan when I see a "what is the best downpipe" thread, but usually post my opinion which is just as valuable as the next guy's. But, considering the questions that are impossible to answer, everyones opinion or input really doesn't matter in the grand scheme of things as single Johnny SR-22 with Progressive in LA will gain nothing by hearing about married Ron with a clean record with Geico in Virginia Beach. Someone earlier mentioned ballpark information, but with my example questions..... 404 ballpark not found.
