Default 2011 WRX Clutch Issues Currently at Dealer

Long story short.

They are replacing the master cylinder to fix that clicking sound when depressing the pedal.

I originally brought it in for a horrible squeak when depressing the pedal only when it rains even if the car didn't get driven and sat in the garage. I finally got the tech to see the video. He opened the clutch and saw metal shavings. They are goodwilling a throwout, diaphragm, and pressure plate. They say the clutch pad is fine.

42k mi. Babyd.

Should I have the pad replaced too?? Should I purchase an aftermarket one like the ACT??

The car is stock and I plan on keeping it that way. Maybe stage 1. I just want **** to last a long time.

Video of the squeak. Pardon the socks.

Thanks in advance for all advice.

Hopefully they will fix the firewall crap welds while in there. That may be your problem anyway.

I know about that issue but I wouldn't expect that to only happen when it rains. That should happen all the time. I wanted to pull the cowl before I brought it in but didn't.

Sorry, couldn't resist.

That is one god awful squeak. You should still be under warranty on that, which is nice. Sounds like a joint in the clutch pedal assembly itself has completely dried out. Let us know what it turns out to be. Make sure the dealer takes care of everything (all other current recalls and TSB's) while you're in.

This is famous in the LGT world and "they all do that". The clutch safety switch is the culprit and a cheap fix. If they're goodwill changing other things, sure.....get a new OEM clutch to get some extra wear out of it. Well worth it. Don't go aftermarket. They likely wouldn't install an aftermarket anyways unless you agree to pay the labor.

Keeping my fingers crossed I don't have this come up. I'm around the same mileage, also stock tune and I leave it in the garage when it rains.

Had this on my 2004 WRX. I wish I found this post long ago when I had the issue, of course this post did not exist then. I just drove the vehicle like it was normal because after replacing the clutch, etc., I couldn't get rid of the squeak.

Like many 2009+ WRXs, my 2012 WRX gets the throw-out bearing whirl sound on humid days. It's done this for 2.5 years/25K miles of ownership and basically since Day 1 of ownership.

I've also noticed that I can get the throw-out bearing to make a somewhat similiar squeaky/creakying sound if I depress the clutch numerous times when the car is off and after it's been sitting for a few hours. It has NOTHING to do with the clutch pedal assembly, firewall welds, etc. It's the throw-out bearing. I've been able to get the throw-out bearing to make this sound for nearly the 2.5 years of ownership as well. Once the car is turned out, there's not squeak/creak because the bearing quickly is lubricated. As for the firewall welds, I have yet to read about a 2011+ car with the welds breaking. The 2011+ clutches are a bit lighter so the stress on the welds might have been reduced or Subaru addressed the issue.

These sounds have never gotten worse or better. Many have replaced the throw-out bearing because of similiar sounds, only to have the noise (usually the humid day whirl sound) come back almost immediately. Owners of the new 2015 WRX's are experiencing the same exact sounds.

I have the whirring too. I opted to get thedisc replaced too. It was only 175. I should have it back tomorrow. Hopefully in the same exterior showroom condition I keep it in.

Nice, glad it seems to have worked out for you. Is the whirring resolved as well? I've had this sound as well, which kind of resembles the sounds that swallows make, when disengaging the clutch since pretty much day one of ownership. Plus, I had that whistling/chirping sound when the clutch is disengage also since day one. Only hear them in the morning though.

The car feels awesome. Less slop. Less ****ty sounds. No whirring so far. Easy to slip the clutch. The old clutch felt bad from day 1. Then I had it bled and it was better but still had the noises. Now it feels like a new car should. Awesome.
