this was our first go at it and its all dry, had a huge run on the other side so we peeled all the red off and re-did it.

WOW, that does not look like PD. Nice job!

Hi Everyone,

I recently bought a new set of wheels that I feel would look really good in glitter gold. I've seen the Prodrive wheels in real life and I've always enjoyed the shine and brightness of it. The gold that I'm talking about are like below

.

I understand that I won't get an exact match but perhaps someone from the platidipping community can help me get close or even point me in the right direction. I've looked at a few pics of other PlastiDip wheels that are in gold, and they provide me a solid backup but I wanted to see if anyone has gotten close to this gold before.

Thanks in advance

You can always do the gold with the metallic gold flake and then do clear coat on top of it all a few times in order to get a real shine to them. But I would say do a flat white base coat then do the gold and flake a few coats of that and if your happy there then do your clear coat with 2 or 3 layers as well. Just don't screw up the clear coat because it's a pita to remove the dip and clear

Not sure if this would be helpful but I did 5 coats of matte black and then 4 coats of the gold metallizer and this is my outcome
It's got a lot of different looks depending on the lighting, but the more metallizer you do the more gold it gets.

Has anyone used Plasti Dip Blaze Blue before? This would be my first time using the product and want to get a blue closer to an ice blue, but not a sky blue if that makes sense. Do base coats (white vs. black) affect top coat color hue/shade?

Folks, I highly recommend using the proper solution to remove hard to remove Plasti dip. The Dip Dissolver is by far the best solution I've ever used. I tried Goof Off, I tried WD40, I tried Goo Gone and they didn't work as well and effectively as Dip Dissolver did. It's worth the money. Check the link out, read the product description, watch the video and read the reviews.

Different but similar idea. I took out the inside scoop and made it lime green to match my other lime green accents.

Easy enough to remove the hoods internal plastic to paint or vinyl wrap etc.

Has anyone tried dipping the factory aero roof bars? Thinking about dipping the silver bars black to match the factory rack mounts.

Remember gentlemen, if you mess up your Plasti dip or you end up not liking the way your Plasti dip came out...

IT PEELS OFF.

Just plastidipped my winter wheels gold to try the look and for protection. I used the gold wheel kit and 2 cans of gold metallic. I think itís 9-10 costs total. What is the longest amount of time I can leave this on and still have it peel off? I donít want it permanent but Iíd like to leave it until I sell the wheels years from now.

Pics to show the antique gold with metallic gold on top. I did a test piece with plastidip clear coat on top and it didnít work out so Iím glad it never made it to my wheels.

And for reference. 6:00 antique gold plastic can top. 3:00 antique gold sprayed. 12:00 gold metallizer over antique gold. 9:00 plastidip clear over gold metallizer over antique gold.

I would not recommend the plastidip clear over a metallic. The texture on the cap is crappy but the colors are true. The metallic is awesome in real life and I hope it holds up with brake dust and winter

On my 2013 Impreza 2.0i can't do much performance on it so style is all that is left.

Dipped the roof flat black along with the door mirror covers and the front grill:

Also decided the winter wheels needed some polaris yellow:

I've seen a lot of rim companies doing aftermarket anodizing lately... may make them look more authentic, definitely last longer.

Thatís completely the opposite reason for dip. Itís supposed to be a cheap, quick, and temporary alternative to painted finishes.
