Default WRX control arms on a BE...hmm

So I've been reading this:

http://scoobymods.com/forums/showthr...1280#post21280

And got to thinking...pick up some wrx sedan control arm takeoffs, change out the bushings (the front is $46 and the rears will be group N ones I bought from ten80 ), and the front track has just been increased by 20mm for under $200 and increased negative camber from the geometry change.

How would that affect the handling do you guys think? It should help reduce understeer and better turnin and sharper steering response (combination of the stiffer bushings, neg camber, and wider track)...at least that's what I'm theorizing.

I'm also thinking that the negative camber should prevent any rubbing from the fender with the wider track too...but it may be anyone's guess.

Right now I'm just bouncing this idea around. Opinions, questions, theories?

Well, I think I'm going to try this out. I've asked a couple of wrx wagon owners about the extra stance and it seems to work out pretty well with not a lot of downsides.

Time to source me some used control arms

Should be an interesting mod - you should have plenty of room under the fenders too...

Updating this:

It didn't go quite as planned, but the control arms are in there

Even at 0 camber, I didn't have problems rolling on 225's and a 48 offset wheel (7.5" width). I have about 3k miles on this setup and so far no transaxle issues.

I can't say about the wider track being the only contributor to the handling changes, but it is much more stable during high speed turns, turn-in's much more responsive, and it's not as tail happy as before (unexpected).

You might not have axles problems now, but there is a reason sedan and wagon axles are different. I would probably throw some sedan axles in there just to be on the safe side.

Thats interesting that the wider front track you now have doesn't make the rear step out a little easier...

Actually there's wagon owners that have put 10,15,20k on this kind of setups without any problems either, but I'm not going to cry foul if anything happens. It's more likely a wheel bearing with go first I think...*knocks on wood*

The multi-link rear and wheel setup may have something to do with different handling characteristic that I've heard from impreza owners that went with the wider front track.

Just to update this. almost 3 years later and over 32k miles, still doing fine on the original axles, hubs, bearings (though I did have to replace one bearing/hub because the hub cracked from attempting to remove a stubborn ball-joint).
