Also, if the new MAF doesn't fix the issue, I'll be looking at bringing it in somewhere. Dont really want to bring it to the dealer but also don't want to bring it anywhere that doesnt know these cars. Any suggestions on local places?

If this is Bill (merchgod) who you're talking to I'm sad to see that he's jumping to conclusions on this one. Unless I missed some background information, the 2 logs you posted isn't enough to justify spending $200+ on a new MAF sensor.
The positive fuel trims could be due to many factors, but a bad MAF sensor is one of the last I would look at personally. I have seen more ripped open turbo inlets that have caused this problems than any other thing. I would start by doing a boost leak test off of the turbo inlet. Look for leaks coming from before the turbo. This would cause your problems. |

Thanks for the reply! I feel like such a noob here.. are boost leak tests hard to do? Reading about some of the DIY testers and people say it's easy but digging through the engine is sometimes pretty foreign to me. I'm always up for learning so I'll keep reading up on this stuff today and see if they start to make sense. Thanks again! =)

They aren't too hard, but if you are not familiar with the connections on the turbo inlet I would do some reading or ask someone for help.

You also could try swapping MAF sensors with someone just to try it out, but I wouldn't jump the gun and go buy one right away.

so... anyone have a boost leak tester that I could hook up to?
If not, they don't look that hard... I'm just very familiar with the hooking it up and testing process and I'm trying not to blow anything up. |

Just make sure you cap off the crankcase breather lines.
I had one... not sure who has it currently though... |

So more drama with my Forester.... now the mileage has gone completely to hell.
Current mods are: Lowered 4.5" inches on STI coilovers Tires at 43-45 psi Roof rack removed Custom intake Straight exhaust (no cats/no muffler)... this gets swapped back and forth with the stock exhaust as it gets too annoying. Some parts removed/lightened. Average mileage over the first 77,000 miles was 27.6... the last year or so it has been closer to 30. If I really watch my foot and hyper mile I can get 36-37. Rarely is it under 26, ever... Last month the oil pump seized and the motor failed. I replaced the motor with a new OEM motor. Upon start up there was a bad fuel leak in one injector... mileage was around 18-20. Made sense considering the gas was spraying out like a squirtgun. I drove it for a total of 55 miles before I parked it and waited for the O-ring (week wait from the dealership). I replaced the O-ring and the leak was fixed. However the mileage is still terrible...The other day is was 12-15 mpg around town. The best I would see was 19-20 on the higway at 65. Its been about 250 miles and no improvement. I do have an engine light on, however this has been on since nearly day one when I switched exahausts. This has never had any ill-effect on mileage previously. I've read that a bad O2 sensor can cause horrible drops in mileage, but this bad? I'm having my codes checked tonight and I'll go from there, but wanted to get some opinions/feedback as well. I ordered a new O2 sensor (both) but they sent the wrong parts, so its another week of driving this way.... Any have any ideas?? I don't even want to drive this thing anymore... Thanks in advance! |

Check your fuel trims. If you notice that they are very far positive it could be your o2 sensor, but it's hard to say otherwise.
If you can log the car I'd check that your car is in closed loop going down the road, and if not you will have to figure out why... Off the top of my head I'd say o2 sensor, but I HATE throwing parts at a car and hoping that it fixes the problem. If you want I could check the fuel trims and maybe spend a few minutes logging the car and let you know if there is anything that sticks out. |

Check the cel and get back to us. If bad front o2 it will dump fuel. If it comes up with system too lean it will also dump fuel. If your injector was just dumping fuel and not atomizing it wouldnt burn right and you could get a system lean code that way. Get your cel checked and go from there.

There is an autocross every weekend. I couldn't find one acceptable weekend without one, so that's the day we went with. No problems though, we are going to hit capacity - I just thought you guys who came last time would have a good time once again...

Hello
I am the new guy in town from Nebraska. I went to the beginning of the auto cross today and then to the Gilligan's car show.
Met a couple Subaru guys at the auto cross. Nice showing of cars at the show. See you around. Brian |
