Anybody get tired of all your mods and go back to stock or somewhere in between??
OK, so I read this the other day:
http://forums.nasioc.com/forums/show...ght=back+stock and it got me to thinking. Sometimes its a hassle driving my car, worrying about where to park due to theft/door dings, not getting it wet, dirty, snowy etc. I have a 02' WRX with VF34/pinks/STi TMIC/KW coilovers/Advan wheels/ a set of winter tires and wheels/Cobb Accessport protune/koji modded lights/MRT TBE/Greddy gauges/ STi lowers arms and links/kartboy everything .. blah blah blah probably everything I could want. Sometimes I just feel like stock is fine and what I have is excessive. Need to take off some of the **** and just drive it like it was meant to be and quit thinking so hard. /rant off Give me your thoughts............

that the stupidest thing I thank I have ever read in my entire life.
Drive the piss out of your car. Mod it to drive the piss out of it more. Break it, destroy it, rebuild it, beat the piss out of it some more and the cycle continues. What the hell is a modified car for if your going to worry that your $12k car with some little mods is going to get dirty? A car is a car, its meant to be driven and driven hard. Now dont go out and abuse the car, but deffinatly dont worry about all you stated. Get in it tomorrow and drive the doors off of it. Take it to as many autoX's and NASA events as you can afford and drive your car how you modify it. |

I guess I just hae a completely different mindset. Whenever I complete a mod (coilovers for example) I always wonder how i ever delt with the car before the mod and how much better is now. Thats not to say I dont worry because I am serious OCD. lol.

I have very similar thoughts, although I dealt with it by getting another one that I leave totally stock. It's also got HIDs and heated seats which are really nice in winter.

I had a pretty built up 04 wrx, 6 speed, fmic, supporting mods, etc.
I was installing a aps sr40 turbo when I just randomly decided to turn around the other direction walk away and start parting the car out. When returning to stock I found a 94 wagon and did a sti swap into that. The wrx that I was parting out is now on blocks as a parts car and soon to be rally car . It has been on block for like 8 months, what a waste... |

Yeah...sooner or later we all get tired of it and just go back to stock, then sell it to start over.
But I'm pretty happy with my stock turbo "stage II" wrx for now |

For me its more getting tired of the car being the same or getting tired of modding a particular car so at some point, I part out (down) and sell and start over with a different car. Its a lot of fun but an expensive hobby. There are a few cars I wish I had back and some I wish I never would've touched. But hey, we only live once.

You know, I like modding my car but, I'm modding it to USE it. Not to look at it. If I didn't want to take it to the track, I'd probably leave it stock. I also have another vehicle so, if something goes wrong, I can just leave it on jack stands for as many days as it takes.
I don't get how you guys can mod your daily-drivers though. There's no way in hell I'd buy someone elses modded car. That's just an accident waiting to happen. I have a stripped out track car too. I took it too far to enjoy driving it on the street and won't do that to my WRX. |

Sit down and think about what parts are causing you to not like the car and remove them. I have been down this road many times with project cars.
For example.. I realized one day that my Super loud TI exhaust was making me hate the car.. I installed a Greddy evo 2 exhaust and now the car is much nicer to drive and to live with. No more noise. I had racing brake pads and they made noise and chattered.. I put stocks on. MUCH better for the road. No more noise. I hate aftermarket clutches... I run only stock now. The car is a pleasure to drive. No more chattering and reving it up to get it going. I pulled my coilovers off and installed STI struts and Tein S tech springs. Now the car rides nice. I yanked my harness bar/half cage out along with the harnesses and went back to standard belts.. ahhhh.. My seat goes back far enough now. So much more comfortable to ride in. No point for my camera mount now.. so I gave it to Subiechick. I got rid of the JDM Seats and got USDM sti seats. Much more comfortable. I removed the Short shifter and went back to stock shifter. Wow.. Much smoother and easier to shift. No more shaking in my hand. I got new RPF1 rims and new tires. I still got RA1 race rubber But they ride nice and smooth and they are perfectly balanced.. NO steering wheel shimmy.. My setup has changed alot.. But now the car does not make alot of noise. No clunks. No chattering clutch. No cramped driving postion. Just a fast and fun street car that you can live with. Next up is to remove the rear wing and to install a smaller turbine housing so can have a wider power band at 20 psi. I have a 1.06 now that I setup with my GT35R so I could have enough flow for my 90 shot of nitrous. Yeah.. I detuned it.. But I dont race it anymore. I drive it to the store and run errands in it. I found myself wanting to drive the car more. I still have big power and thats what makes the car fun. In years of modifying cars I have learned a thing or two.. Do you want a race car or a street car? You really cant have both. The older you get the more street car and less race car comes out... When I was younger I was happy in a 56 oval VW slammed to road dot height. Change lanes and the road dots get knocked off and fly off in the rear view mirror.. LOL. That damn car was loud as hell. It hurt your ears... I loved it.. Now? Not so much. Cya CLark |

When I bought the WRX, he did nothing to the engine. He had it up to race ont he track, so I sold the Recaros, Takata harnesses, Ti JIC exhaust, roll bar and extra set of Works and paid for the turbo and Cobb AP.....so it wasn't like I bought some beat on car that may explode. Quote:
And I know this isn't a Lambo, but this car is my baby, so I like to take care if it just liek plenty of you do too! It's not like oh well, here's my $12k car, lets treat it like crap.....I ride a motorcycle everyday so this is my fun weekend/daily driver. Good points guys keep em coming.......I like the diverse opinions!!!!!! Last edited by Farnsrocket; 09-11-2007 at 02:33 PM. |

That is like saying one day you will stop being thirsty.
Speed and boost is addictive. You could try and get therapy, but then you will have to live like a recluse after that because when you hear a blow off, there you go again. But really, as much trouble as my car gave me, I would not change a thing, only how I tuned it. |

You would just have to know what you want to achieve and be conservative especially where it comes to a daily driver.
I tell guys that I want no more than 300 and even 280 will do. They saying that this is nothing to write about. But the thing is, I will be satisfied with that, so what if you want more. Having a 280whp car in Jamaica, and I don't race is more tnan enough for me, where traffic is around the clock. The higher you get from stock power, the more gremlins pop up. |
