Chris Pedersen's Bugeye Thread
**PIC HEAVY**
This is the progress thread for my 2002 WRX. I've gone back and found pictures from when i got the car to when i decided to create this thread so you can see the history/changes. I will also be updating this as i make further changed to the car. Enjoy! For most of the summer, I was looking at the Acura RSX Type S. In July of 2014, my uncle bought a 2002 WRX and told me I should look at Subarus as well. I got to drive his, and once I did that, I decided to expand my car search. After searching for about 2 months, I found a 2002 WRX with 89k miles. After talking to the seller, I made the 2 hour drive to PA and bought it for $8,500. This was the day I picked her up. Only mods were a magnaflow turboback exhaust, SPT intake, and some Sport Tuning wheels. The next 2 months or so I spent my time getting my car ready for inspection so I could get it tagged. In that time I was told to get rid of the catted up pipe, so my first mod was to get a GrimmSpeed ceramic coated catless up pipe. I also had to remove the tint that was on the car when I bought it to get it to pass inspection, so once I passed, I re-tinted the car with 20%. With winter approaching, I knew I would be putting the AWD to good use when I went snowboarding with my friends. So I picked up a Thule roof rack with a Thule snowboard rack, as well as a new set of tires I also decided to paint some eyelids onto my headlights. At the time I though they looked good, but I dont think I would do it again. Winter was fun!

I didn't do too many mods during the winter of 2014/2015 due to the fact that I was at college. However I did have a job, so I was able to do a few small mods, such as replacing all the interior lighting with LEDs as well as red LED parking lights, LED plate lights, and blue LED guage cluster lights.
In the spring of 2015, I picked up a stock 2007 WRX shift knob to replace the worn out stock one in my car as well as an SPT strut bar. Both were free! In the summer of 2015, I got the same summer internship that I had the previous year. This meant that I would be working full time, but I would be getting a pretty solid paycheck and therefore i could afford more parts. I found a great deal on a JDM STi hood scoop. I also cleaned the eyelids off of my stock headlights and traded them for a set of black housing headlights. I also color matched my side skirts to World Rally Blue. June of 2015 I made the drive to Ocean City, MD for OC AWD. I also found some spots on the beach and grabbed some photos. Then I finally bought an Accessport! It was time to flash the Stage 2 map. I originally bought a v2 Accessport, but after having it for a week, I found a killer deal on a V3, so i sold the V2 for more than i bought it for, and picked up the V3. Unfortunately I couldnt spend all my money on parts because my odometer had hit 105k, so off she went to IAG Performance for a new timing belt and water pump.
After paying for the timing belt job, my savings had gotten lower, but I still had my internship so I was making decent money. I worked a mile away from Mach V performance, so in July 2015, I decided to pick up a set of Mach V lowering springs to get rid of the disgusting fender gap. The day I installed the lowering springs After about a week or so letting them settle. In late July/Early August, I came across some deals I couldn't pass up, so I traded my WRX wing trunk for an STi trunk and wing and picked up a set of 04/05 tail lights for super cheap. August of 2015 and I was on my way back to school. My magnaflow turboback, which i still had, was a nice sounding exhaust but I wanted something louder and deeper. I found a guy selling an unknown brand "cannon" axleback for pretty cheap, so i picked it up, cleaned it, and put it on. It sounded so much better! In september, I traded a bunch of extra parts i had laying around for a set of STi fog light covers and a turboXS front mount intercooler core. I ended up selling the FMIC though. In a little over a year she's gone from this... ...to this So this is where my bugeye sits as of now. I have more plans in the future and i'll update this as i go along. Stay tuned! So i got vanity plates as a birthday gift this year, so after ordering them, they finally came in about a month later on Christmas Eve. I think they are appropriate for my car haha. I also got an angled front tag bracket as well as a set of hella supertones for christmas.
Excuse the crappy iPhone pictures of the front. Just showing the supertones and tag bracket |

A few weeks ago, i picked up a replica Version 2 STi lip for a decent price. The paint was the chipping and it was the wrong color, as well as having a small crack, but i knew it was fixable, so I got to work
Test fitting After sanding down the lip. Pictures of the bottom that used to be really scuffed up I dont have any pictures of primer and painting, but this is the night i finished laying the clear coat I made up some custom brackets to attach the lip to my bumper And this is the final product. I'm really happy with how it turned out. The v2 lip is one of my favorite lips for the bugeye and makes the front end look much more aggressive A buddy gave me his Cobb shift knob, so i replaced the old oem from the 08+ wrx Last edited by chrispedersen94; 04-05-2016 at 10:48 AM. |

Last night I finally picked up a set of my dream headlights. JDM v7 black chrome, HID headlights. They came with the bulbs and ballasts and are in really good condition. I paid less for these than a set of the halogen projector version. I'll be ordering a lightwerkz harness and then figuring out what to do about the rhd beam pattern

I got the headlights bolted in and wired up with the Lightwerkz harness. They look so nice and the light output from the HIDs is so much better than the stock halogens. They still need some fine tuning to adjust the beam level. Im going to have to roll with the rhd beam pattern for now until i get a chance to look into lhd shields or a retrofit
Aside from the jdm one piece grille, i finally have my dream front end put together. I didnt think i would have both the lip and headlights this time a month ago. The exterior is pretty much where I want it, aside from a few minor pieces that ill get in the next couple weeks, so now its time to focus more on power. I decided to make this so i could really see how much my car is changed. Top photo is about 2 months after I bought it (10/2014), only mod i had done was a catless up pipe. Bottom was taken today (4/2016) Last edited by chrispedersen94; 04-07-2016 at 10:54 AM. |

The car is looking really good! Love the front end.
I said the same thing to myself about the headlights when I first installed them 3 years ago. Still rocking the RHD beam pattern haha. I never get anyone flashing me though which is why I haven't done anything about it. |

The other day i came across the final piece of my jdm front end- the STi one piece grille. I found it on craigslist for the insane price of $50, and it was in great shape. I jumped on it and picked it up the next morning, and I couldnt be happier with how it looks. I can finally say that the front end is complete.
Also picked up STi carbon fiber side markers, the center badge for the V2 lip, and the shifter trim from an 04 STi. Its crazy how much the shifter trim adds to the interior. Its the little things Last edited by chrispedersen94; 06-15-2016 at 10:53 PM. |

Today i finally had the cat removed from my downpipe so my car is now 100% catless. I also installed some rear subframe lockdown bolts. They make a noticeable difference and the back end of the car feels much tighter now.

Love the way that you have been building your Bugeyed rex mate, honestly has turned into something that you can be proud of and continue to work on as time progresses. Cannot wait to see what else you decide to do with this vehicle.

The other day, my friend gave me a set of hood struts he had bought for his Dodge Dart, but never got to install. Turns out, the brackets they came with work perfectly with my hood and the ball studs are the same thread pitch as my fender bolts. If I hadn't gotten the hood struts for free, i probably would have always just kept the hood prop, but now im glad that its gone.
I also replaced my high beams with some Hella Optilux Extreme Yellow bulbs. I love the way it makes the high beam housing reflect yellow. Last edited by chrispedersen94; 07-15-2016 at 10:57 PM. |
