This boomer has been pleading for a full blown STI Levorg as much as anyone. You know a station wagon; AKA Boomer vehicle.
It's the boomer business executives, not everyone in that generation. I recognize that many people of that age group are interested in fun to drive cars. "boomer" more refers to the mentality than the particular age group...

Maybe they need more letters for the hatchback A/S/RS 3. Because I can't (or shouldn't) afford that beautiful RS6 avant.

One thought and thread at a time. WRX4US is right in blaming later generations. Goddam flibbertigibbet hippy kids.

I get the impression that it’s the younger generations that I are rejecting station wagons because they’re “too boomer” in favor of SUV’s. Can you put all the blame on the “executives” if the market research points in a definitive direction? The younger generation’s are more likely to be repeatable buyers, hence the catering to them.

I saw one late Wednesday afternoon on the highway; it was in that "primer gray" color, I drove along side it for a couple of minutes.
All I can say is farking WOW !!!!
It was rolling on at least 21" wheels with rubber band tires; massive front brake calipers and rotors, super wide rear fenders.
My wife was looking at it as well; she couldn't understand what the big deal was .

The 22's are nuts. Massive fenders but perfect gappage. That's how you do it. Nobody else can get it right on a 4 door based vehicle.

A station wagon is fine as long as it does not look like the Grand Family Truckster. I wrather liked a lot of the Volvo Wagons. I still blame Boomers for Bellbottoms. I remember my step mother bought me some and when I refused to wear them, she took them in and made them straight leg. Boy I hated those, and 70s puke green. That one too.

On a positive note from the Baby boom era, we had mid century modern design, the 66 Mustang GT-350R, and the Porsche 911. But the boomers did make and destroy the American Auto industry as we knew, they get a lot of credit for the good and the bad. Being the dominant generation of the last 70 years in America they have shaped everything for better or worse.

You're right. I realized over the years that my wife doesn't appreciate sleepers.
She was happy when I was driving the look-at-me-now B5 Blue Dodge Charger (even though she never drove it; not even once) and still doesn't understand why I traded it in for a Golf R.

I was driving along side it in our XC90 with 21" wheels and 40 profile tires and the RS6 wheels clearly looked a tad bigger with way less tires and way less gappage .
But, man, the whole package looks perfect going down the road; what a wagon !

The 90's reincarnated them into Jnco Jeans and the ultra baggy style. But we now have skinny jeans trend so maybe the latest generation is finally rebelling again those hipsters of the 1800's.

Those hipsters were sailors.

Fashion divas. They ruined clothes for the next century.

Blaming boomers or any specific generation for everything or where we are in the Automotive industry is just ridiculous.

MCM is doing up a RS3 hatch and every episode I watch, it makes me more sad all we get is the sedan. Mind you it's auto only so I likely wouldn't buy one anyway, but still. As for the new RS6, they're just perfection.

Some of the foreign press have been relating a preference for the unavailable in the US RS4 Avant. As I understand it unlike the RS6 Avant the RS4 Avant doesn’t have rear wheel steering. Perhaps not as necessary with it’s shorter wheelbase, but I would imagine it would still be desirable.

I get bummed at the lack of a manual, but we've repositioned cars within the family and my manual driving gets done on a motorcycle now. We need to be able to share cars and my wife doesn't like driving stick. So I'd settle for the dsg trans. I prefer the look of the Audi 3 over the Golf R, as well as the slightly bigger trunk. MK8 Golf R w/dsg isn't off the table though, I still miss my R.

Although, looking back at this topic - not quite sure I'd stoop to the level of accepting a cvt Levorg...

I slept in an Audi RS 6 Avant wagon on a 14-degree night to prove that you don't need an SUV for 'utility'

"Remind me why we are doing this again?" my boyfriend, the real hero of this story, asks.

"Because blogs!" I scream while pulling on a pair of thick, wool socks. "We're doing it for the blogs! We live and die by the blogs!"

It's just past 11 p.m., but instead of tucking into a bed with a nice feather mattress and a down comforter, we are suiting up. Suiting up in long underwear, synthetic thermal layers, wool caps, and sweaters.

There is a red 2021 Audi RS 6 Avant station wagon parked in the driveway — a light dusting of snow already accumulating on top of it — just waiting to be camped out in. Ordinarily, my job involves cars when they are moving. But tonight? The stationary station wagon suits my needs just fine.

See, I'm out to prove a point, and that point is that wagons are just as utilitarian as big SUVs. North American buyers can't seem to get enough to the sport-utility-thingies. Automakers have gladly encouraged the behavior by offering more and more SUVs of all shapes and sizes while phasing out smaller cars.

RS Q8 will accomplish the same and be just as quick. I just don't like the look. shrug

I certainly won't argue "utility" differences and I also don't see much, if any. However, it's not just "utility". It is sometimes simply the height. Many folks don't want to be sitting soo low they can't see as well passed the larger vehicles(and that also includes pickups. Not just more SUVs) and relative ease of getting in and out of versus a wagon. Happened more times than I can count when I showed people Legacy wagons and then Outbacks. They chose the Outback for ease of entry and viewing position. Plane and simple.

The raised sedan didn’t seem to last that long. I would think a lowered loading height would be an advantage in a wagon.

Don't disagree. Even I would have chosen a SUS(thinking back at how long it lasted. wow. It was part of 3 generations. Seems long and short at the same time) back then; but, if it were available now, I would certainly go "wagon"; BUT, would also go Outback versus Legacy wagon. The loading height, I guess, would be determined on the actual floor height. Loading in, sure, you don't have to lift as high. Now, getting it out, you have to bend or squat or whatever versus a higher height, you just kinda grab at level(if I said that right). That would seem to be less important as it is getting in and out of the car.....to the average buyer.

I liked my SUS. But I also had a slammed Outback of the same generation to pull hauling duty. Lifted sedan lowered wagon...how I do.
