So, based on this response, I take it others (at least you) have the same "issue"??
It's annoying for sure... using more throttle sounds like a good "fix" but it really shouldn't be doing this at all. It seems ridiculous that this is just something that you have to deal with?

A search should turn up more from a couple years ago with the same thing - it wasn't a big deal to me, and I probably spent more time in the FXT than most people. Mine had 70k on it last January when I traded it for an 05 OBXT

Did your filters drop? Did you have any to remove? The union bolts won't really make a difference. When you say wacky can you elaborate? Is your AC on?

my FXT was made in august 2003 according to my vin plate. so thats why I did the TSB.

my filters dropped and I removed them. and now i have a very rough idle. what can I do now? I was searching all over about it, but I didnt find another post with the same thing happening to anyone else. I guess I am the first one?

I can't imagine that union bolts would be the issue, but maybe if you try tightening them down more. Maybe they weren't torqued properly. I took my screens out and it had no impact on the idle either way. The other possibility is that you may have disturbed something while you were working on it. Did you bump into the MAF sensor or disconnect anything and forget to put it back? There was some stuff in the way on the passenger side.

If you are not leaking oil out the union bolts I wouldn't think that there is anything wrong with them...

Have you tried resetting your ECU?

+1 for checking the airbox for a seal, vacuum lines, maf, etc.

I only took off the elbow to get to the passenger side union bolt. I drove the car and noticed it idle alot rougher when I went to go pick up my girlfriend. and everything was torqued everything properly w/o no leaks. I already tried resetting the ecu and any and all vacuum lines, maf, etc. so I dont know. I guess I am an oddball. I'm going to drive it today and see what happens.

You're joking, right?

FXT resale values are so strong I bought a new one because I couldn't get an 06 at a decent price.
