Question about MP3 player and EQ
Can an MP3 players built in EQ setting dramatically improve the sound out of the factory nav sound system? The reason why I ask is because I am suffering with some TERRIBLE sound out of my new cars sound system. I was trying to get my mp3 player to work with my nav unit via the usb connection. This didn't work so I tried the aux input, voila! Sound! And I immediately noticed a marked improvement over the sound coming out of my speakers. So my question is, can I achieve a better sound quality using the EQ on my MP3 player vs the OEM headunit? I know this must sound like a stupid question, but I am almost in disbelief right now.

Try leaving the head units EQ flat and play with the MP3's EQ.

The difference in the quality is the input type. usb vs. aux. just like radio quality is not as great as cd.
What options are available on the radio? Actually you should leave the MP3 flat and change the EQ on the radio. That way you can use the same settings for your other items such as cd/radio. If you still notice poor sound then change the settings on the MP3. Qualifications: installing car audio for 4 plus years.- MECP certified |

I just realized as well, since you didn't mention what type of MP3 player you're using and what type of jack you're using to plug into the AUX input.
If you're using the headphone jack on your MP3 player you're feeding a slightly boosted signal to the aux port already, and that will sound significantly different from using a line-out cable into the AUX port. Whether that sounds better is pretty subjective and depends on the MP3 player. |

Sound quality does in my experience, matter what brand aux cable it is. All of the newer cars I've heard have decent quality stuff. And I preach that the entire sound quality debate is subjective to each person. If you don't like th sound, change it ya know. I personally have always had an aftermarket radio or separate eq in every car I've owned

Just saying, but meta makes a few types of aftermarket radio kids for your car op. I specifically with the aux or usb sounds t is an option. Wouldn't be the first time I've replaced a factory stereo in a brand new car. If you want, give me what audio settings you have available and I'll suggest what to tune it to. Make sure, if you have it, that the auto sound leveling is off and that there are no options on the factory radio that deal

MP3 scan rate matters. You should rip at 128K and up.
As long as the 3.5mm AUX cable doesn't pick up noise, Aux should sound good. |

Wow thanks for all the replys! I was using a walkman a729 connecting to my headunit via the aux in 3.5mm headphone jack. The sound was noticbly better. However, when I got home this evening I hooked up my sisters iPod to the USB port. When I did that this system came alive! This is how the car should have sounded from the start! I hear all sorts of tastyness from my speakers and just the whole system sounds good now. I can tune the EQ on the headunit and actually play with the EQ on the iPod.

I use 192 Kbps MP3 rip for my Sandisk Clip +. Using aux from the headphone jack, it sounds clear. I turn the MP3 player's volume all
the way up. Using the same song, I made a comparison with an iPod. They sound the same. Quote:
