There's no replacement for displacement, right? Sorry, but no. The trend of smaller capacity turbocharged engines has given us some pretty spectacular powertrains over the last decade, with few as impressive as the G16E-GTS in the Toyota GR Yaris. It's also highly tunable, as it turns out. DTE Systems already has a kit that takes it beyond 300 horsepower.
Unless you've been living under a rock, the Yaris GR has been one of the most impressive cars to come along over the last year. It's right up there with the all-new Porsche 911 GT3, Corvette Z06, and Cadillac CT5-V Blackwing.
As standard, it's equipped with a 1.6-liter turbocharged three-cylinder engine that produces 268 hp and 273 lb-ft of torque. And as we've recently learned, it can be tuned to deliver nearly 500 hp using stock internals. Say hello to the engine that could take over from the 2JZ as the most modifiable Toyota engine ever.
