Toyota GR Corolla: Automatic Transmission Set For 2024 Release Date

The most important spec for the modern Subaru enthusiast is that the Corolla GR is rumored not to be able to fit two car seats in the back. For the Subaru fans out there, I'd probably skip the GR and just get a WRX. Think of how important the legendary Subaru AWD system is going to be when you are in the Walmart Parking Lot when there is a half of inch of snow on the ground. It just makes sense. The GR just isn't practical.

And if you aren't looking for practical, the the GR isn't for you either. Think of how many people you could impress if you bought a Mustang instead. It's basically a rear-wheel drive WRX. It's got that massive curb weight that you know and love, and you'll have the ability to say, "I own a Mustang." Saying, "I own a Corolla" doesn't have the same appeal.

Think about it. And stay away from the Toyota dealer.

I know this was a joke, but I did test fit two rear-facing car seats in the normal corolla hatch (MY2018) and they fit; not to mention that when the GR Yaris was a potential rumor I recall that my wifes former Yaris (MY2007 so an actual Yaris, not a Mazda) handled a rear facing behind the passenger seat (my wife is 5'-6") and will handle a booster behind the drivers seat (I'm 5'-10").

Again, I know you were joking, but I'm going to a Toyota dealer tomorrow, and after the reveal confirmed the leaked info on the GR Corolla, I'm going to be committing to just under 100k in vehicle purchases over the next two years (buying the wife a Highlander Hybrid limited @ ~53k and going to be first in line for a circuit pack GR Corolla in red @ ~40k? guesstimate), so whatever fanbois, enjoy yourselves, I've turned to the vanilla side.

I'm liking the variety of options on the car. I like that hood bulge on the CP.

I can't see the Core trim being very popular without the PP, unless it's priced aggressively.

lol. I'm just mad the Subaru stopped making the STI the same year that a decent manufacturer decides to come out with a performance AWD car. Now I'm going to need to compete to buy one with all the people who care more about car seats than performance when buying a car.



I've been waiting for either Subaru to stop making bloated cars or someone like Toyota or Honda to build one so that I could find a suitable AWD car that is as nice as my GM6. I'm not thrilled with 3250lbs, but my fear is that the GR is probably my own shot to come close to recapturing the feel of that GC chassis.

Showed the old lady earlier today, she goes “you should sell the WRX and get one!” She didn’t even mention a new Sienna. Two new “me” cars in one year and no Sienna hybrid ultimatum? Need to figure out who’s boning her so I can thank them.

And that’s great, because I already spoke with an awesome salesmen I worked with at a big dealer and have 2nd dibs @MSRP. Just not sure I’ll have the heart (or be dumb enough) to get rid of the WRX. Still would rather GR Yaris - but glad to see Toyota didn't pull another ***** *** move and actually will sell it here after teasing the idea. And apparently not dumbing it down either. Gonna grab all the WRX/STi hatch, FoRS, Golf R, and (maybe) Evo refugees in need of a new turbo AWD compact car fix. If they also offer a sedan version down the line, it would put the nail in the WRX's coffin...

Don't hate. There's a decent chance I'll end up with whatever circuit/racing model is available when it's time to buy this time next year. (18 STI warranty will be up)

I'll be the guy going the speed limit with a trunk full of groceries and my daughter in her car seat. I'll rarely hit redline, and probably quite literally never hear tire squeal. But, I'll love every minute of driving it and looking at it. Just like my STI.

Nah, he's right, sorry. Damn shame, a travesty, to buy something like this and do that with it. A bunch of people doing the same will make it impossible to acquire for the drivers who are actually going to use it for what it was designed for. It will literally price them out.

Motomachi just doesn't have the production capacity to compensate for all the hype train people, image buyers, Subros, Toyota fans, rally fans, F&F crowd, latest new thing crowd, the 6 figure car collection owners looking for another notch in their bed frame, the people who'll just use it to sit in bumper to bumper traffic as well as drive thrus, the folks who want it to be a family truckster, and all the Karens and Chads. It's going to be a mess unlike anything we've seen. Once the ADM dominoes start to fall even the most honest dealers will give in to greed. I wish they would have brought the GRY instead, it would have shook off a lot of busters. Damn shame. Then according to history of the USDM, when something is even harder to get the idiots want it more for some reason, and the ADM becomes literally, insane.

I read comments on some you boob videos oh my. This whole thing is even going to be worse than I could have possibly imagined. Comments such as "it's going to have 10k adm, but I don't care!" Another "why they don't they make this in blue!!!!". And more "why is this not a big family sedan?" It's just begun and we predicted this a while back. Once PR hits, here come the Chads and Karens with money falling out of their pockets.

Oh btw, they don't make a "racing model" whatever that is. And there aren't going to be any available to you when you decide next year you want one. It's not a Subaru man. You'll have to wait year(s) unless you're dumb enough to screw enthusiasts over by paying 5 figure ADM. GRY has multi-year waiting lists already and it's made in the same factory. For many they'll be even lucky to acquire before production is over and it hasn't even begun.

The power/weight numbers are very close to that of the early GD STi. I dig it and can see picking one up when the hype dies down in a couple of years. Good on Toyota for making this happen and screw Subaru for giving up on the market.

Ah, I wasn't referring to whether or not we would find them on a lot somewhere, I was more talking about how they'll be marked up $10k+, like the TypeRs were. When deciding between a BRZ at MSRP, or a GR Corolla at $50k, my wallet says BRZ.

I previously shopped multiple TypeRs, but none of the local dealers would budge on ADM. I even turned down an offer of a test drive unless they could tell me they were negotiable on the mark-up.

Anyway, it looks like there is a base package, without the wing and other assorted bits. I'd never buy that trim, but it looks like that will allow it to slide in under my previous minimum estimate of $39,450+ (before markup). What that admission, it's still closer to my guess than some of the other guesses in this thread, although I lose on The Price is Right rules.

With all that said, without ADM, I think it will be a fabulous car and I love the shape of the fenders. Well done Toyota. Give me the extended grille to grille warranty and I'll drive it year round.

Bro... I said that to strike a nerve, mostly, which is why I referred to the trim like I did.

That said, I do drive my STI tame, but it's still a lot of fun. If I get a massive level of enjoyment out of a car, but don't race it or beat on the car, who's to say I'm somehow wrong for buying a circuit edition (theoretically)? I can bet I get more satisfaction out of the car than people who are blowing their motors chasing numbers, or always trying to win a highway pull race, for the clout purpose buyers. "Instagram enthusiasts."

You'll have plenty of people who will buy a GR, throw on larger wheels, underglow lights, slam them with coils, wrap them with call of duty camos, sticker the windshields, buy suspension parts knowing no idea how they will effect the car, and beat the **** out of them, while dragging them over curbs. Some others will be lightly modded and end up wrapped around a tree by someone showing off, and because the windshield is fogged up with vape cloud.

Yet, I will be the bad guy for putting 30k miles on one, over five years, and selling it when the warranty was up? Seems like that would benefit plenty of people in five years who are looking for one not modded or beat up, but couldn't afford to buy one during its production run. Whoever buys my stock, well maintained, and well treated STI is in for a treat. It's a gem for someone looking. As with the STI, I'll be the one making someone's day when they find a GR Corolla with a responsible owner, which has been garaged and not beat to hell.

As a car guy who I'm sure has looked for the same condition vehicles in the past, I'm sure you can find some appreciation for that. Not modding a car like the GR, or STI, and driving it easier than most, is about the best way to stay unique, anymore...

Think of it this way; The comparison between how I drive my cars compared to others:
I'm the 37 year old guy slowly sipping and enjoying a quality cold beer in my back yard, instead of the 21 year old kid shot gunning a Bud Light in his friend's garage, just to show off and get drunk.

I know you and I have had this conversation before, to the point where I think it has become more of just that, instead of a keyboard warrior argument.

As far as the STI goes, the fanboy comment was a joke. But, I was really let down when Subaru **** canned the STI. I have had so much enjoyment out of my 13 WRX, 15 STI, and my 18 STI, that I would have at least strongly considered the 23 STI.

I was thinking about getting a VA 19+ STI in the future when I was ready for a newer car again, but I've just reached out to two dealerships in the area to talk about the GR Corolla...

After what Subaru did to us, this may be too good to pass up. The only thing that would stop me would be the price tag at this point.

And to the gatekeepers out there: I will probably get the Circuit Edition and it will NEVER see a track in its lifetime. Oh, what a shame.

I really like the look of the circuit edition, but the “core” one not so much. That hood and rear spoiler really make a difference. The circuit edition looks mean and less econobox. I’m sure there will be some accessories though for the core. The rally wide body is nice too.

Love the car. Bravo Toyota, this is a proper spiritual successor to the STI/Evo. It's a damn shame Subaru didn't provide an STI to rival this.

If I didn't just go through my 20g flex fuel build on my STI, I would most likely have called a dealer today to get in line. It doesn't make sense to me to trade in and go through the whole build process again with a different car. But I will definitely be giving the future owners a thumbs up when I see them on the road
