Default Radio Pops and Shuts Off

Hi all - so a week ago my stock radio started acting up (2015 WRX limited). A giant POP comes from the speakers, then the radio shuts off and the main audio/nav screen shuts off. The screen usually reboots once, then the whole process repeats once more and the second time, the main screen stays completely off / black.

Once I turn the car off for about 5 minutes, it's back to normal but within 3 minutes of using the radio (FM, AM, XM OR bluetooth), the whole thing loudly pops and shuts down again.

Just fyi, I had the subwoofer recall work done and this is unrelated.

Think it's likely just a bad head unit that needs to be replaced?

Thanks.

Did the problem happen prior to getting the subwoofer replaced?

If not then the dealer probably screwed up.
If yes, then warranty it.

It literally happened for the first time on the way to the dealer for the recall work. The subwoofer wasn't replaced, they just added some clip to keep wires from touching the subwoofer frame. I told the dealer about it and it didn't happen again (of course) while they were working on the car. I made it home without it happening and since then it happens every time I use the car, within 5 minutes of listening to the radio.

I don't think this has anything at all to do with that - regardless I'm under warranty, just wondering if anyone else has had the same problem.
