Brush on touch up paint for spray painted wheels?
Long story short, I'm wondering if there is any brush on paint I can buy that is compatible with spray paint? Can I just use model paint or something...? The story...
I'm in the process of spray painting my silver BBSs black with a red lip. I first sprayed the lip red, let it dry for a day, taped off the lip, then painted the rest of the wheel black. While taking the tape off (let the black dry for a day also), some of the black chipped off. I tried touching it up by spraying some black on a piece of paper and using a brush to dab it on. But the wet black paint ate into the dry black paint making it look like ****. So what kinda paint should I be using? I want to get these fixed ASAP so I can clear them and get my damn winter tires mounted.

I think I'm just going to try normal touch up paint... hopefully it wont screw up the spray paint.

1. ) I'm calling your mom, to slap you on the back of the head . ( for painting your wrx-sti wheels. )
2. ) Just put another coat on, If you don't bother with paint prep. & the paint starts to chip-off. . . . |

You can use the brush to touch it up. It'll be fine. Spray some of the paint into the cap and you'll get a small pool. Wait a couple of seconds for the paint to thicken a little bit and it'll be fine to use with a brush.
If you want to respray, wait a week for the paint to cure, then sand, prime, paint, once more. Otherwise you'll get that crinkling effect you just experienced, but on the entire wheel. |

Why? There is tons of sets around selling for the price of brand new Rotas, its not like they are a high dollar wheel. I'm keeping my golds for summer anyways. These I just did for winter tires. I wanted a darker color than silver so I don't have to clean them all the time.
BTW, I did prep the wheels by scuffing/washing/tacking them but I think painting in near freezing temps is less than ideal. I assume the low temps caused the paint to not stick as well as it should have. Anyways, I'm clearing them tonight and getting the tires mounted on Sat. Next year I'll probably just get them powder coated at a shop I used to work at. |
