Turbo break-in worthwhile?

I fitted a VF30 today (along with STi injectors and a stage-4 mapped unichip). Is break-in for this turbo a worthwhile procedure, or totally redundant? Please, no subjective opinions based on heresay - does anyone actually have some experience or real evidence supporting one school of though or the other?

I have done about 25 miles today at about 16psi (was planning on gradually moving it up to 18 or 19psi). If the expert opinion is that I should be running at like 10psi for a thousand miles, so be it. I'd rather not grenade this thing through reckless behavior, but also I'd like to not be driving around like my grandmother if it's completely unecessary.

I heard people suggest to change the oil with a quality synthetic and you will be fine.
