stages are for the uniformed sheep of the world. Generic "stage X" roms are just that, generic.

Better to get a custom tune after fitting whatever mods you can afford - this way you get good power, custom tune and end up saving money too.

Since we're using the Dollar Menu analogy, are there ballpark figures what each of these menu items costs?

No way to really say that. It depends what you go with for brands.
You can get cheap downpipes, or you can get $$$ downpipes, you could do a full tbe for cheap, or 2 grand.

And the engine management, again, prices vary.

I know their are almost endless possibilities with each stage set up as far as purchasing parts, but it would be nice to show some examples of name brand parts + stage set'ups.
Examples are always nice to see.

AFAIK you can bolt that up and keep going. EM is only required when you increase flow and decrease back-pressure, which a cat-back won't do.

No kidding! Who wants to be "Stage 0"??

Okay. First, make it easy and buy a later 2.5 model, which does not need uppipe or injectors replaced. Then: used exhaust, used VFxx, used STi topmount, protune. If you can install yourself, you might get away with it for close to a grand.
