It's been 734 days since this thread was started. I can't believe no one has asked: "Why no stage 3?" I'm new to this forum, but I wouldn't call myself a n00b by any stretch of the imagination. Any of the mods want to let me in on the joke?

There is no exact answer for 'Stage 3'.

Every, and I mean EVERY 'stage' is for marketing and nothing more. Stage 2 comes in about 30 different forms, and 'Stage 3' comes in even more. There is no exact answer.

I have never played the 'stage' game as it means NOTHING. For example, take an 02 WRX with an aftermarket uppipe/TBE/professional custom tune, and pit it against some OTS 'Stage 2' tunes, and you have 2 COMPLETELY different cars. And that's just at 'Stage 2.'

If you're basing your car off a certain stage or calling it something by a certain stage, you either know nothing about how these things work, or you're an attention whore who's trying to look cool. I've seen both on these forums, so many, many much times. It makes me sad.

I disagree. If you include the company with the stage, it makes perfect sense, saves time, and eliminates confusion unless you're dealing with idiots. I met a girl that had a WRX. She asked what I had done to the car. I said "TXS stage 3" and she immediately knew what I had. Simple.

Agreed. The stage classification system is arbitrary & trivial. It just struck me as odd that Unabomber has a Stage 2+ instead of a Stage 3 on a list that is so meticulous that it includes a Stage 0 (ironically in math 0 is "the trivial set"). I figured he had a specific reason, or it was an inside joke. It bothered me that I didn't already know the answer & that no one else had asked what seemed like an obvious question.****1,000 pardons: Just noticed bbun beat me to it by 1.4 years. I must have missed his post last night.**** Even so, I assure you I wasn't being a [email protected]$$.

Excellent point & segway to the other question I have. I'm a member of several other forums where your mods list is part of your user profile. That format is nice since it saves you from having to post or answer questions about your mods in individual threads. I know there has to be a reason NASIOC doesn't use the same format. I'm just curious what it is. My guess: Server $/speed/storage issues because there are a lot more members.

You make a good point. I agree with that point . Otherwise, I'm right.

I'm new to this forum and Subarus in general. I've been lurking around here for a few weeks before I pick up my new car, trying to familiarize myself with mods and terminology. The whole StageX thing has been confusing the hell out of me..... and after this thread, I get it now..... but I'm still confused.

Stages are a marketing strategy and nothing else.

had this very conversation with a pal of mine. Stages remind me of playing racing video games... you xx number of $$ to do the "stage 3 upgrades" etc. Unless your looking at a staged "Kit", your car should be referred to as "modified" and " it has..."

False. Anything after 2 you can't call it a stage but until then its a simple marketing tool for newbs to explain a downpipe and tune.

If you have a downpipe and a protune, that's still Stage 2.

Also, this isn't twitter...

Thanks for the nice explanation. I've always wondered what people were going on about when they say "I've got full stage 2 now" and I felt like I was missing something because everyone else seemed to know what that meant. Now I know, it could mean a lot of things so it wouldn't sound dumb to ask what "full stage 2" means.

I read on this forum someone said stage 5 is a ten second car. Not saying its true or false but it made sense at the time.

similar to the generalized b.s. when people advertise "bulletproofed" engines. everyone has their own definition
