Hey guys.....any of you have a suggestion for a rechargeable backup battery for dash cams? Like one that is a pass through between the the camera and the cigarette lighter?

Does anybody have opinions on name brand vs. random Amazon brands for cameras? I want to move my current camera to the rear, and have been thinking about a Garmin Mini.

You probably read the same thing I just read...that pass-through on small and relatively cheap USB battery packs (Anker, etc) isn't possible because it would degrade them very quickly.

I do know that the larger batteries meant for camping, power outages, etc by companies like Jackery are passthrough. This is the smallest one they make, I think: https://www.amazon.com/Jackery-Porta.../dp/B07FYJVFNK

I have the slightly larger 240 and it's about the size of a small lunch cooler.

this place seems to have quality stuff throughout. Regular shipping was 2 days from BC Canada to Detroit, somehow. I was happy with my experience and they followed up asking if I had any questions or needed any assistance with install. I just got a camera, though.

Garmin makes good stuff for the most part. Do you have a form factor that you prefer?

I like VIOFO stuff because of the size/shape and how easy it is to make it un-noticeable from outside and inside. The software/GUI is not as polished as some others, but also not the worst. Video quality is always near the top for the $. There are a couple other brands that use basically the same form factor as VIOFO, not sure which is the original.

I have nothing but the absolute highest praise for Garmin products.

I have been to their HQ in Kansas several times.

My own personal experience with their customer service is great.

Overall just a fantastic company.

I would not hesitate to recommend their products.

In the last 25 years I've owned numerous Garmin products for marine use, aviation, sports, fitness, and personal electronic devs...and been nothing but pleased with every single one.

Oh it's bad:

In the back the quarter is crumpled and the passenger door jamb is tweaked. Happened to my wife last week. Insurance totaled it yesterday.

@nutbucket, that sucks...

@Calamity Jesus, that 4Running was still riding the bumper of the vehicle in front of it even after sliding through the intersection... I would have given them more room. lol

Thanks guys. Wife is OK. Had some dizziness for a few days but she says she's pretty much fine now. Just happy the kids weren't involved.

Yep, while my video clearly shows she was hit first nothing beats having two cameras. Of course the other guy's insurance initially questioned whether my wife was hit first they ended up dropping it and taking responsibility without ever seeing the video.

I also learned it's best not to mute the mic but in this case nothing bad came of it.
