![]() i inadvertantly destroyed the engine in my baja the other day (turbo grenaded and filled the engine with metal, taking a rod and main bearing with it.)
![]() is my current body harness compatible with the ez30, or will i need the ez30 harness? if i do need to swap harnesses i might as well go with the ez30r, how difficult would it be to make the harness and ecu work with the 3rd gen body? i have a 4eat with sport shift, how difficult is it going to be to keep it? i want to keep everything as factory appearing as possible and dont want a standalone ecu. this wont be my first engine swap, and im not afraid of electrical work, i just want to have an idea of what all i will need to make this swap work

![]() look into if the 30d harness out of an ll bean 3.0 legacy of your generation will work
they use the same trans. the 30d is no powerhouse, but will likely be the easiest, and certainly the cheapest route |

![]() for an H6 swap it would be pretty straight forward for you. since 3rd gen legacy's came with the h6 (llbean) the engine would drop right in. cruise control and a couple things like that would be relocated. and you will need the h6 style radiator hoses. the wireharness from the h6 donar could would swap right in with ecu. much easier than you think. BUT it would be better for you to buy an STI engine and drop that in since your car can just get a opensource tune.

![]() yeah i did the sti swap last week, turbo let loose on the freeway and sent schrapnel through the engine, i figure the h6 would be a bit cheaper for the time being than rebuilding the ej257, later on i plan on swaping out the pistons in the ez30 and turbocharging it. but for now i would settle with the bottom end grunt of the 6.

![]() well, its been 5 months and i have the h6 swap finished. the wiring has been a nightmare, but the reason is is that i was dead set on keeping everything looking stock, and a wanted to keep the 4eat sportshift. but with that said, the h6 is amazing, it has the same power as the 2.5 turbo,(actually it has a few more hp) but the torque comes on alot sooner, the only issue i seem to have is the hvac blend door actuator isnt moving through its entire sweep, but that shouldnt be too dificult.
pics soon to follow Last edited by xtsix; 09-22-2011 at 09:07 AM. Reason: spelling |

![]() So did your originally do a sti swap or just turbo the existing 2.5 you had in there? Good job on the swap, I bet that is fun to drive. A turbo H6 would be awesome!
Oh and I'm assuming you went ez30d? |

![]() the baja was a factory turbo model that i installed a new ej257 long block into and it grenaded a few days after finishing. i wanted something a bit different so i swapped the ez30d. it would have been easy to just swap in another ej257 but i like a challenge

![]() what wiring? adding injector wiring and COP stuff? anything else major?
with the 5th branch of the harness(turbo stuff), you'll be able to turbo the D with a simple retune. (edit)did you leave your turbo X member(i hope)? you did what i knew had to be done 2 years ago. unemployment sucks. i wanted to be the first to do that in an auto WRX. congrats, looks like you did a nice job! i love the STi crinkle red mani ![]() any pics or video? --keith |

![]() with an 05+ factory turbo car the entire harness needs to be swapped due to drive by wire, dash harness engine harness and front harness, then i had to wire in the body control module so the tail lights turn signals and interior lights would work, then i had to re pin the dash harness connector for the 06 dash to work with the 04 legacy harness. if i had an n/a baja everything would have been easy. i had to swap in an n/a crossmember from i think an 05 forrester, to clear the exhaust. it only took 1/2 hour to swap. i still have the turbo x-member though for when i decide to go turbo. the engine swap itself only took 2 hours total. and all together i probably have about 80 hours in wiring, but i am anal about soldering every connection and using waterproof heat shrink tubing, so that number could be shortened by 8-10 hours if you use crimp connectors. as far as doing the swap into a wrx, it shouldnt be hard at all, as long as its a bugeye you wont have to touch the interior wiring at all and the tranny is identical to the leggy. but even with all the troubles ive had, all in all it has been one of the easiest swaps ive ever done. dont have any vids as of yet but i will get a few more pics this weekend.
oh also to clear the exhaust the transmission filter needs to be relocated with a remote filter adapter. i used a couple earls 1119erl adapters and some -6 fittings and stainless braided hose. |

![]() im glad you didn't crimp the wiring together!
![]() i forgot your DBW! my car or a NA baja wouldn't have those drawbacks for sure. is your harness 5 plug still? im not sure if i have it printed out for comparison purposes. i try to think thru most things i attempt far in advance if possible. my WRX seemed the least intensive H6 swap besides an NA(but turboing would be tougher). again awesome swap and info! keep us up to date how it goes ![]() --keith |

![]() So, with the engine wiring harness and ECU from an '01 to '04 Outback, it would be a much easier swap into an '03 NA Baja?

![]() with an earlier models(no DBW, no CAN-bus, same trannies avail) of leg/forester/impreza you have less elec hurdles to tackle, and most mech bits are the same or really easily changed for correct part(a la lego moniker). 02-04 WRX is easy also(for turbo fun) since it shares lots with the ez30D cars already, and no elec crap to have to correct. xtsix did an awesome job of jumping in an going for it! he had skills to do it, and its probably a huge plus side when having to fix anything on it now! he's going to have to school the dealer if it ever goes in....

![]() if you use a harness from the outback into a pre 04 subaru it should be a direct plug and play swap. watch out for hvac wiring and discrepencies in main harness junctions but all should swap easily.
i think im ready to swap an ee20 diesel into something, just gotta wait for them to become affordable. wonder if hydra would run a diesel....... speaking of going to the dealer, i just got a letter in the mail friday for a recall on the fuel lines, this is going to be entertaning ![]() Last edited by xtsix; 10-02-2011 at 11:19 PM. |

![]() I have a 2003 Baja NA 5 SPD manual, I want to also swap out the 4 banger and drop in an H6 and also keep the manual box. I have some experience with other car swaps, NIS, HON, TOY, SUB, but It is never as easy as the schematics and the vision in my head is.
Please help, I am really looking forward to doing it in about March-April of 2013 when my refund comes in. ![]() P.S. xtsix, that is a wicked looking swap. |
