Default Dash Cams - v. Everything happens in MA

This is a thread that we, the collective of OT can share our own, personally recorded, dashcam videos capturing other drivers being... stupid. Because, we're damn near perfect ourselves. #iknowright?

This thread is for us to share and showcase the bad driving habits of those we share the public roads with .... in that we can (hopefully) learn from others mistakes.

1) This is NOT a thread for sharing/posting/linking other peoples videos... just our own. Don't link to those Russians or accident compilations. I will ask for those to be deleted.

2) This is NOT a thread for hoonage or racing videos. There are plenty of places on the internet, or other local forums/threads, for that. This thread is just for our own use/comment.

3) Provide a brief description of the video, and WHY it was posted.

4) Include the camera you used if you know it.

5) Try to edit the video down to the pertinent section. Don't post a link to a 30 min video for something that happens for 5 seconds at 22:10. (or if you cannot edit down, add #t=x at the end of it - where x is the number of elapsed seconds - thx Kai)

When sharing a link to your personal dashcam video from youtube, please do not forget to remove the "S" from "httpS". (You don't have to surround the link with tags, just post the link URL, and remove the S. The forum will take care of the rest)

If someone you encountered was, what I call "being stupid" post it.

Example:

Stupid driver running a redlight that was red for at least 3 seconds... (Camera: A118)

Some dude pulls out of a parking spot and runs right into my bumper and front fender.

Dude in a Dodge Stratus makes another poor life decision and fails to yield to me, the guy turning right from the bike lane/shoulder, and the lady who eventually pops off his bumper cover nicely with the nose of her Chrysler Pacifica.

Torx bits to remove the fender liner + some labor on my part took this:

It's not perfect but it's good enough (and it's not like the rest of the vehicle is unblemished, what with trail pinstriping, dented running boards and the like).

Nope. Clean exit. Probably a stupid move on my part since I could have gotten a new fender out of it, but just as well.

I'm installing one tomorrow that I got a week back. I could have used it yesterday....chick called in a "road rage" on me despite the fact it was her that flipped me the bird and told me to "**** off" after honking at her for running a stop sign during a right turn and almost hitting me (I stopped in time and her shenanigans continued up at the red light ahead of us). Cop told me "well, don't worry if you don't hear back from me" after sharing the rest of the story he didn't hear from her.

"I have dashcam video of the whole thing" would have been much more satisfying than leaving me with an anxiety attack, waiting for them to roll up and issue me a BS summons to appear (which may or may not happen).

20 something butch white girl wearing square-rimmed glasses and wife beater driving a beat up old police car w/ a kid in a car seat in the back. Not your typical soccer mom driving a Porsche SUV like you'd expect to be the other party in my story

Turn the camera around and I'd watch it all day.

"Nice"

And evidently tibug has a hard time understanding very simple and basic rules. Like rule 1.

Did you stop to provide evidence for them or did you deem it clear enough from the damage pattern that the cop would figure it out?

Yeah no I didn't stop. I briefly considered it, but decided that in this case it would be ENTIRELY clear what had happened.

In a more interesting accident I would of course stop and leave my number.

I have seen three rear-end accidents on this same stretch of road- they have the turn lane timed differently than the others, so somebody scoots forward while the lane to the left starts moving, and a distracted driver plows into the back of the car in front of them. It's what motivated me to get a dashcam (this is a g1w).

Also, on that same stretch of road- I see a built Jeep Cherokee barreling down on the wrong side of the road, and it can't stop fast enough to pull back into traffic (also note the destroyed car around :30):

Called the cops, and managed to hook my Mobius to the cruiser's computer, grab a screenshot, and zoom in. The XJ was stolen that morning.

After a bit of googling, I found the owner in a local offroad forum- the thief abandoned it in the middle of the road when it ran out of gas. He got it back, and it wasn't damaged.

I like the Mobius more than the g1w- you can use it like a gopro if you want.

I hard-wired my Rexing 1080P camera today...pretty straightforward. Only snag is the stupid VW safety clips on the A-pillar...need to go back out to the garage tonight and see if I can get it reinstalled.

My only complaint with the Rexing is its hard to see the video screen given the angle and the angle of the windshield...its optimized for a more sloping windsreen I guess. Not like I need to watch it in the car but it made it a little hard to get the view set.

32gb card gives 12hrs of looped video....more than enough. I think I'm $150 in including the SD card, camera, add-a-circuit kit and USB hardwire kit.

Has anybody run the new small GoPro as a dash cam? The would seem to be a great option as well, albeit not optimized for it.
