Guess I will give an update as there are tons of views on this thread. I noticed a puddle of ATF behind power steering pump so I have been replacing the pump these past two days, decided to replace instead of rebuild as it has 202k on it so there has been a delay in turbo install.

High pressure line won't work with my Mamba turbo inlet so I just ordered the IAG braided line. Waiting for new line before turbo goes in. Did valve cover gaskets on both sides today while waiting for new steering line. Will install wideband and boost gauge tomorrow...getting all the little things done now as it is so much easier with turbo, airbox and washer bottle removed. Turbo is last. I did a quick test fit and Arashi turbo lines up nicely with Mamba inlet.

Turbo looks like it really is a direct replacement! It all lines up so far.

I decided to go with a 3 catch can setup, found some nice cans on ebay for $29 each with 1/2" ports. Reduces to 3/8" inside the nipple so I will drill them out to a full 1/2".

Looking back I probably should have built a 500hp CRV instead I would have been done last month as I know those engines already, Subaru is nice and all but goddamn simple things turn into all day projects on these cars.

Turbo install will probably be next week, I will include photos.

Then begins the tuning!

Subscribed, I'm looking at getting one of these turbos for my 2002 WRX.

I'm looking at the 18g td06.

Quick Friday update... turbo is in , oil and coolant lines hooked up.

Just wanted to update that it is an oem fit...oil drain and coolant lines hook right up. I had to leave off one uppipe bracket so that oil feed would clear. All supplied hardware works well.

I did a quick test fit and looks like IC y pipe is a fit too.

I am using Arashi turbo, Mamba inlet and Mishimoto Y pipe, oem wrx IC, four brands and YES they all work together. Used a pry bar on BPV return to slip the Mamba inlet on. It is a quality inlet and fits well easy to install but I removed my PS pump to get it in.

All thats left is to find a muffler shop to weld on wideband bung, set up catch cans, get ecuflash working and she is ready to fire up. Thats it for now...feel free to ask questions on fitment or whatever, I can add more photos next week.

I am considering bypassing oem BCS and running off wastegate which I know will slow spool a little bit. Right now it is set at 16psi, if I use oem bcs I will install a 10psi spring (adjustable) and tune from there...haven't decided yet. Any input on wastegate spring choice? I am going to target 16-18psi with this turbo.

One more thing for reference...I had to change to IAG power steering line to clear Mamba inlet as it was squishing it, with the IAG line it fits nicely. I highly recommend the Mamba inlet, 4 ply and fits well.

Shes alive! Just a quick test start to pressurize everything and check for leaks. Has no exhaust not even downpipe in video. Only ran for a little bit...still mapped for oem injectors but she has 750s now so running rich until I can start street tuning, not going to drive it like this I just wanted to test. Used all arashi hardware and no leaks so far, also used AUS injectors with provided seals and they are working great.

Just wanted to add for anyone copying my setup... The only snag I ran into with this whole install was the mishimoto y pipe had to be trimmed about 1/2" on the y sides to get intercooler to seat right, other than that this turbo is a true oem bolt on. My downpipe also bolted right up to turbo and exhaust...aftermarket 3" unknown brand downpipe that fit my old tdo4 aswell.

Feel free to ask any questions, I will update this thread as I start tuning if anybody wants it. For the money this seems like a great deal but time will tell. I plan on running off of wastegate spring for now, it has a 16psi spring from factory but I may change to 10psi spring so oem bcs can be used to help spool a little sooner.

I seafoamed the engine right before I took her off the road to install new turbo so that explains the white smoke....hopefully***65533;***65533;
Enjoy!

Subbed. I have the 8cm 18G Arashi in my watch list, and you're pretty much driving my decision much closer to purchasing. I just don't want to swap injectors because I'm too lazy. I already have an STI TMIC and Walbro 342.

If you do buy it, buy from ebay they will match website price of $683 but you get free shipping, Nicklesport is Arashi on ebay same company. I have a pretty good feeling about the quality but nobody knows what's really inside the CHRA yet, it has only had about a minute of oil pressure so far. I just want to make sure the bearings and seals are up to snuff before people go buying these. Let me put some miles on her this week I plan on doing 500-1000 miles or so once I get a base tune going next week. I just got burnt out from working on it everyday this week. Plus my knuckles and forearms need some time to heal.

More unorganized info I learned:

- I did not have a screen filter in my oem banjo bolt (2004 original ej20) and that bolt was definitely not removed before me.

-Arashi banjo bolt has a smaller feed hole in their banjo which acts as a restrictor.

-MGD, while a standard beer, helps you work on metric cars too.

- Always save extra bolts from old projects, my wrx now has some Honda and Mitsubishi bolts on her.

-When removing bolts get a piece of cardboard and draw a picture of what you are removing, stick bolts into the cardboard where you removed them.

-Your arm is not a torque wrench

Just wanted to add the wastegate spring color guide for future reference, it is the only thing they don't provide.

Got her up and running today had to pull out about 56% fuel to get it to idle with new injectors. Bled coolant and power steering. Just a side note I found latency values for injectors on AUS website. Drove it about 2 miles staying out of boost and under 3000, keeping an eye on wideband. Idles nicely at 14.6-14.9. Still no leaks, I was expecting some so this is good news. I think I will get it running safely and just take it to a dyno, there really is no substitute for that constant load and a pro tuner.

If anyone knows a good tuner in Reno/Carson City area it would be much appreciated.

Damn that was fast! You must have had all the supporting mods already.

Installed boost gauge and wideband (permanently) finally today. Talked to Mayhem tuning in Reno I will probably get tuned there Friday. I did a bit of street tuning just to get new injectors set up but decided there is no replacement for a dyno tune. I can always street tune the part throttle after the dyno tune, but it sounds like Mayhem knows their stuff so maybe not needed.

Let us know how you like the new turbo and also what you had before.

So today I flashed in an oem map and adjusted injector size and latency, no other changes and it actually runs well (no boost yet). Just made appt for dyno tune on Friday, will post up results. Will target 18psi and see where she lands...will go to 20psi if she wants more. I am only seeing 14 mm of vacuum at idle but that may be because of my elevation at 4500ft.

Sub'd! I have been eye balling the TD06SL2 20G for my EJ25 for months now, just waiting on more feedback before I pull the trigger, because... reliability is a thing.
Thank you for the great feedback, you are doing a great service to the community here.

Appreciate it, so many people are hit and run here just taking what they need, feel free to leave comments or questions you can't hijack my thread.

I know it is unorganized and not step by step, but there are some nuggets here. I put another 50 miles on her today and removed ALL cats (benefit of a small town). The sound completely changed, sounds very choppy now with crazy off boost turbo whistle. I did switch to 10psi (blue spring) wastegate spring today and re-introduced the oem bcs. It seems more responsive now even off boost, I had it setup with a 16psi spring before running straight to wastegate and I think it was cracking open too early

Side note: that white smoke was just residual seafoam burning off, its gone now thank god..

Moral of the story kids: always buy a AAA membership. I bought the $80 package per year and they came through for me. Tow driver said it would have cost me $620 to tow home....about 80 miles one way in a rural area.

AAA can eat that bill for a change.

Well she is alive with new ecu and a tune! Ended up with 350 whp and 339wtq at 19psi, will post up dyno chart later. I was aiming for low 300s but the tuner said the car was running so well with zero knock count that he pushed it to 350 and she still has zero knock but I am just about at the limit for stock ej20 so he stopped there. This was at 4500 ft and 85 degrees, 91 pump gas. The powerband definitely shifted up she is a little beast now from 4000 rpm to 7000 rpm. My 750 injectors were mid 60s duty cycle max.

I can't say enough good things about the tuner, Corey from Mayhem. If you are near Reno that is the place to go. At the limit now for stock clutch so I will leave it as is and eventually go FMIC and equal length header.

this is the sweetest thread!

nov/dec 2016 i was considering a new turbo. around march 2017, i settled on a Chinese brand - tbo.

i spoke to the manufacturer, and told him what i want - a 16g. he balanced it and sent it to me for 265$. i installed it in June 2017 with supporting mods.

i amcurrently running 19.5 psi/1.35 bar and it is still going very strong even as a daily driver. no oil leaks and a very dry housing (i deleted my pcv and vta both breathers).

the metallurgy and qc isn't bad in the east.

i'm glad you've put this up. i had considered an arashi or mamba but my budget was constantly laughing at me while pointing

sorry about your ecu. i'm glad you got it sorted out. enjoy the new beast!!

Just wanted to give a quick update. Everything has been great so far. I have only put about 3000 miles on her so far because I do a lot of short trips but its been through hundreds of heat cycles and over 50 full throttle runs many over 100 deg ambient temp. No smoke no leaks no weird sounds. She still makes 20psi in second gear around 3800 rpm and holds 18psi to redline, I think the taper off is a function of wgdc not turbo size. Very satisfied so far. I forget that its a little 2 liter 4 cylinder sometimes the way it pulls from 4k-7k. Many a modded 370Z and mustang have been broken off by this beat up old wagon they never see it coming ***128512;. Gas mileage seems to be better overall also due to larger hotside.
