![]() Well I put in 9011 bulbs into my 2006 to brighten up the high beams. Works quite well. At $58 shipped for a pair they are perhaps marginal as to cost effectiveness, as one doesn't get all that much use from the high beams - but they do really give a brighter light. It's certainly noticable, and useful for those few times one does need and can use the lights. And the Toshiba bulbs I put in were an easy 2 minute mod to trim down the tab. HIRheadlights.com even had marked the tab to show what trimming was needed. Super easy with a dremel.

![]() the bulbs at AUTOLUMINATION.com are really pretty nice for 55w selective colored bulbs, but like many others they burn out very quickly. i was very happy with my neon yellow colored 9007s for about two months of heavy night driving before one blew.

![]() Thanks for the great thread! I have an '04 Impreza Outback Sport, and recently had one of the original factory fog bulbs burn out on me. I found this forum by sheer accident, and started to read-up on lighting technology. This thread was a great resource.
I'm now driving with the Narva Rangepower +50's for lows, the HIR 9011's for highs, and Tungsram Gold selective-yellows for the fogs. This seems to give me better performance from all three lighting systems. My first major trip with these was over this past week, with a decent amount of night-time highway driving and night-time back roads driving. On the way home, I had about 500 miles straight of heavy rain and fog, some of that at night. The new fogs were great and helped to provide some much-needed contrast on the back roads and in the rain and fog. I didn't have lots of opportunities to use the high beams, but they seemed to perform much better than the factory stock units when I did use them. Overall this was a great upgrade. I installed the headlight bulbs myself, after teaching my hands some new convolution tricks. After examining the procedure for replacing the fog bulbs, and considering the amount of time I had available between getting the bulbs and leaving for my trip, I ended up having my friendly garage do those for me when they changed my oil (yes, I have someone else change my oil--I don't have time to deal with it myself, and it is a lot easier for me to have someone I trust take care of this for me). Since they already had the car up on the lift, they didn't charge me anything extra for the installation, so it was a win-win situation. One interesting thing to note.. While reading the manual pages on how to replace the headlight bulbs, I noticed that they recommend the disconnection of the negative terminal from the battery. I'm guessing that this is because of the switched-negative system in use for these headlights. In any case, I did that, and had to power-cycle the radio twice to get it to come back (it was displaying "sys" on the front panel). No problems since then, so everything looks like a "go". Thanks again! dxlsm |

![]() I have owned several LED replacement bulbs (3157,1157 etc.) and All that I have owned have blinked fast (was too lazy to install the resistor). But anyways, I have had a problem with all of them. I usually get the ones with 19 led's. I have four on my subaru. 3 of them just recently have 3 bulbs out around the center. On each bulb, its the same three that are out. They are connected like a crescent. Is the fast blinking wearing them out??? OR is there another problem.

![]() Hey Drew, how many watts do those +50 bulbs draw out. I plan on getting Philips VisionPlus. I hope they are 55w so they don't fry anything...

![]() how do these bulbs compare to PIAA bulbs? which is what I have but they are expensive. I could get a pair of the HIR bulbs for what one PIAA costs. By the way, this is a very informative thread. thanks for posting it!!

Stay away from PIAA's, or any other bulb that uses a colored coating on the bulb. All that does is take away from the output. They claim 55w=85w... my arse! They just color the bulb to change the "look/temp" of the bulb to make you think you are seeing more. After you've seen a Philips/Narva/Osram +50 side by side on a really dark road, the difference is obvious. I had PIAA Xtreme White Plus on my Rex and they were horrible just after dusk. The only time they did anything was when it was pitch black out and even then they do not compare to the other 3 I mentioned. They did look pretty cool though! ![]() ~ REVNU |

![]() Hello to all, I'm a newbie here on the subaru forums. Quick reference, 2000 Impreza L Wagon that the family got for cheap.
One question though on the plus50 bulbs, any words that anyone would like to offer on their longevity? Happy Motoring, Kurt |

I've had mine in for about 9 months now. They are still going strong & no problems. I also have my DRL's disconnected, so They're only on at night or in bad weather; I live in SoCal, so that's not very often. ![]() ~ REVNU |

I have a little 500ma 12V wall wart hooked to 2 clips that I use whenever I remove the battery to keep all my electronics alive and their memories intact. Saves me reprogramming the stereo and such. |
