3.90 r160 users chime in
I can't seem to locate a 3.90 ring and pinion . Where did you get yours and how much did it cost + installation

the 91-94 turbo legacies AT & MT, 92-94 non-turbo legacy AT had a 3.9 final drive ratio and would have the a 3.9 rear diff. There's a few imprezas too that have a 3.9 final drive ratio as well.

If your interested i have a 3.9 r160 lsd that was rebuilt after coming off an older legacy. I had it on my car for less than 10k miles before i swapped in the r180/brembos.

I'd assume when he mentions cryo fitting, he is talking about installing the 3.90 ring onto his diff.
You can "home cryo fit" by putting the ring on a hot plate and the diff in the freezer. The thermal expansion coefficient of steel is ~11-12ppm/Degree C. So if the ring was say 150 degrees and the diff was 0, you could get a substantial enough size difference to be able to slip fit it instead of pressing it on. Just don't fool around too long getting the orientation correct or it will be stuck. |
