Looks like if clearance is a problem the eco hitch is the way to go.

So I haven't been able to go through this whole tread so be kind if I missed something.
I called Subaru of America last night and got a part number for the trailer hitch on a 2012 Impreza sport. The girl said its was "Subaru part # L101SAJ000" and I did some digging and some sites say it fits. Even the girl at Subaru said it fits most models.
Now the problem I have is I can't find any pics. I want the hitch to come out the bumper hole for the "hidden hitch" effect. Can anyone confirm this is the part number and have a pic of this on a 5door?

Also I was told the reason there is no "factory hitch" at the moment in the USA is due to the national highway traffic safety administration.

That hole in the back of the bumper you see is for a European rear fog light, basically a red light that supposed to prevent rear end collisions, it's not a hitch hole. Here is one for a z car

See post #124 for a hitch that exits through the bumper hole. It's expensive though... $250. The downside of that model, if you're actually planning on towing a trailer, is that you'll have a hell of time hooking up the safety chains. Looks like you'd have to crawl under the car to hook them onto the hitch.

thanks so much the info Fistv & Rememo. id deff love to see what that hitch looks like on a car so i hope someone posts it soon, but the strange thing is here in florida if i go to central florida the fog is really bad so now i gotta figure which would help me out more the fog light (which i cant find online) or the hitch as florida has ****ed up towing regulations.

Torklift hitch just arrived via FedEx.
Took forever to get all the wrapping off. Poly foam padding and plastic wrap.
Looks nice.
I decided to put it on the scale. Hitch weighs 30.8 lbs
The hardware that comes with it weights 1.5 lbs

I'll install it in the next day or so.

Ok, I love the Torklift hitch! Now what are we doing for wiring on a '12 Impreza Premium?

How is ground clearance entering and leaving a driveway?

I installed the Torklift hitch in a few hours. The directions that came with the hitch helped, but there were a few misses.
I decided to take off the bumper and do the install with no drilling of the frame.
Getting the bumper off was a bit more involved than I thought it would be. I had a hard time getting the small push pin off that was next to the tire. I ended up taking off the rear wheels so that I could see what I was doing. Needed a pair of pliers to squeeze the pin down from the top. I didn't have the right size pliers that would do this easily without removing the tires either.
Once all the push clips were removed, I still needed to remove some screws that were on my car. My Impreza came with side strafe kit and there were three screws on each side that had to be removed.
I used my hand behind the bumper starting at the wheel well to release the side clips. Keep pressure on the bottom of the bumper and push up while working your hand to the rear between the bumper and body of the car. I did this to each side first.
The top center of the bumper is held on by a series of metal clips that is easiest to release from under the car. Used a screw driver to press the clip as I pushed the bumper away from the car. Bumper falls off when the last clip is released.
Mounting the hitch was very easy. I used some wooden blocks to hold it up in place to get the alignment. This is also where I should have removed the plastic bumper brackets. I did this later, but it would have been easier to remove them now and reverse their direction while the bumper was off the car.

I'm jealous of your Torklift hitch, took my stupid Subaru OEM bar off because I was sick of being careful to not grind it out all the time. At least its removal was an easy 5 - 10 minutes just undid the 4 side bolts and slid it out carefully angled sideways without removing bumper.

Hadn't even used it for my bike rack yet, at least it's quick and easy to re-install again on demand though may look to a roof bike rack instead.

Your hitch looks GREAT! But I'm curious, why did you remove the bumper? The instructions claim 100% no drilling, yet you state you removed the bumper to avoid drilling into the frame. Care to elaborate on this?

Has anyone here found a way to install the Curt hitch without grinding out the frame holes? Corrosion is something I want to avoid on this car as I've seen it on others so I was thinking of grinding out the bolt heads instead (on two sides). This would only be used for carrying two bikes, and I want to make it easily removable. Any opinions on this idea? Thanks!

Instead of expanding the holes in your car, just take a little bit of material off of the head of the carriage bolt until it fits in the hole. It doesn't take much before you can angle it in. I did that when I installed a Curt on my Focus, since there was no way I was going to grind my new car.

What about the washer plates that keep the carriage bolts from spinning. Do you have to take material off those as well? Did it appear to affect the integrity of the bolts and washers or did they remain relatively robust in their mounting?

Take off bumper similar to eco hitch. You can email them for instructions before you decide to buy.

The bolts and plates need to be installed with the bolt heads and plates inside the the frame channel. There are two recommended ways to get the bolts into the channel. One is to enlarge the existing holes, the other is to remove the bumper which will expose the open end of the frame channel and provide access points that are large enough to allow the bolts to be placed inside. You can see the rear bolt heads in this picture.

Or can you make the bolt heads smaller and angle them in?
