Default 86 GL-10 turbo engine question

I'm interested in a GL-10 listed in Park City, UT. Would pick up for prob $200.

listing says:
"i wasn't watching the dash and over-heated this car on the way back from St. George. i fried the engine and now it blows blue smoke like mad. it still starts and idles like new but it won't make it very far. the body is mint, as in the interior. seriously a cool car, turbo charged, power everything, cruise, slide-back sun roof, 4WD, alloy wheels, everything mechanical works. if you have an engine this car would be up and running in no time. i put a brand new radiator in before i realized i fried the engine. it also has a new exhaust and CV's up front.

Scrap or rebuild, i just need it out of my driveway before it snows too much more.

Car has 150K on it, i took excellent care of it until that fateful day. "

I want to pick it up and I can fix, here's my question. H4 engine right, aluminum/iron heads/block what's what? If I pull the heads and have machine shop rebuild, should shortblock deck be straight so everything will run great when assembled... or can shortblock warp?

Worse case scenario I think I still want it and to drop in a new engine, how much/where (besides local yard) could I get one of those turbo engines for? JDM?

I believe the block and heads are alloy - cylinders are sleeved - and I doubt the decks would warp. First thing I'd do would be to check the compression on all 4 and check for oil pressure - the smoking might be due to a warped head or some other such misadventure but it could also be due to a seal failing in the turbo allowing oil to go into the combustion chambers - which would be a far less "intrusive" thing to repair.

Don't even worry about the engine in there. Its basically done for. Go with a JDM engine from ebay, swap the intake and all your accessories onto it and drop it in.

No go, too much money not worth it on car to swap in completely different motor.
No turbo motors in the pick-n-pull or tear-a-part junk yards.
a yard is wanting $675-$1,100 for an engine.

Dude, to swap an engine in one of these it takes like 5 hours (2 1/2 for me since I know them inside and out). As long as you start with a good engine, drop it in and go.

But EA82T suck. I went through 3 of them in my built '89 RX. Now I'm going to be swapping an EJ20G into my '87 RX.

a 2.2 conversion would be good for you. not to hard and way more power and mods avalible. check out sjr.com they have adaptor plates to mate your stock tranny to the 2.2

Cool, maybe project some day.
For cheap car to drive I just picked up a $200 '92 Saturn needing minor repair.
My bro's old '92 Legacy Sport 5-speed sedan was my favorite older Subaru we owned, turbo rules.
My parent's 2003 Outback wagon LL Bean edition is very very nice.
