I just turned 30,000

I just turned 30,000 as I pulled into my parking spot today. Places like Smart Service can do the check up correct? Though I don't know if I want to spend $400 or so bucks on something I could do myself and get most of the parts from subaruparts.com... Looks like the only "major" thing on the list is replacing the fuel filter and changing fluids. I've changed my plugs not too long ago, and I would just need to bang the dirt out of the K&N... hmmm.

Although I did go to my local mechanic to do that stuff for me. I COULD do it but I really didn't want to spend the time on it. Oh well, thats how they earn a living... through my lazyness... right?

All in all, I recommend doing that soon either way. And remember to do the coolant flush (and refill), and, um..., have fun

I'm at 29000 right now, and I'm mostly done with the 30K service. The local dealer (have I said f*** Peninsula Subaru lately?) wants $582 to do it.

I just changed my fuel filter and cabin air hepa filter today. Fun.

I think i need to start to drive my car more, I only have 18,500-18,600 and i have had it for 2 years. Every job i get is so close to where i live, not even 10 mins away

Well your luck you live so close to work. I could only dream of that. My commute is about 70miles a day round trip 4 days a week. I just turned 49,000 miles yesterday.

As far as the service when I hit 30,000 I did everything but the brake system myself and went to the dealer for that. I told them I preformed all the other service. They checked the clutch operation and did the brake service for about $160.00. Much better than the $400 they wanted for it all. I was recently supposed to get the 45000 service but I refuse. The want to charge me like $370 dollars to perform all this services that my car doesn't need. Pisses me off the only thing I really need them to do is inspect the clutch operation and adjust parking brake. Well they keep sending me letters saying I’m over due for the service because it's a leased vehicle. Well I only have 6 months left on the lease and then I plan to buy the car out so I don't give a rats a$$. But what do you do?

Just so you know, for 30K service, ive seen prices from $180 (what we paid on a 96 OBS in The Dalles Oregon) to like $400!!!

Parents OBS has like 35K on it now (and it was made in Jan 96)

My car has 246,600, new engine at 216,086.

2001 RS.... 43,000 miles...
y'all aint got nothin on me

30K....
here's what i did....
printed the list of what should be done...
hilighted what i wanted carter to do...
(fluids only - coolant, diff fluid....etc.)
and purchased the rest of the goodies and swapped them myself.

(spark plugs, air filter, fuel filter.....)

total cost including labor was around $150....
and i didnt have to deal with messy fluids and disposing of them.

saved a load of $$$
and the job was done right...
just save your receipts for any work you do on your own...
and the warranty will stand if something "bad" happens...

Carter/SOA bugged the piss out of me via email to get my 30k done.

And then the 32k or whatever it was. Ignore them long enough and they'll go away.

31k+ on mine and I took mine to smart service. I like the free rental and everyone there was very nice. Puyallup Subaru wanted 795.00 for the 30k!

Thats what we thought with my dads 85 Blazer. We still get stuff from the Chevy place even though we sold the car two years ago for my Impreza. When we sold the car is was a little past the 100,000 mile mark by another 150,000 miles

Did that on my first Impreza as well. This time I didn't have to drive 100 miles a day just to visit with the GF, so I only put 25k on it.

Driving 4.7 miles to work 4x/week probably had something to do with it though.
