on a semi-closed deck with stock liners? That doesn't seem like a worthwhile endeavor.

Although we were up to 38psi on cosworth 11mm L19 studs.

I think keeping the headgasket together is more an issue of temperature management than it is headstud size.
^^^^^^ this.

The MA performance bolts, I have heard good things about them. Which variant?

That's Bjornar. I know his engine came apart though he I don't recall why. He ended up going back to a 2.0L with parts that he had sitting around IIRC. So no real in-depth feedback from long term use, that I know.

Interesting thing I noticed

Here is a picture of the end of the A1 (MAPerformance) bolts. This is there "dog point" design they use

Here is a picture of the ARP 625+, also featuring a 'dog point" design

Someone a while back told me A1 made all the "higher end" (L19, H11, CA625+) stuff. I wonder if that is still true today.

I am using the H11 / L19 variant because I didn't know they offered other materials. So far no problems. Car runs amazingly and has held onto all of it's coolant without filling the overflow bottle since July. It is not daily driven and lately with the weather conditions, it's only been driven on average of once every other week. Since july I have only put about 2200 miles on this engine. With 1500 of them at 16 psi, 500 at 20 psi, and 200 at 28 PSI.

P&L Studs here. I have the RCM ones in my hands as well.. Honestly I don't think TQing the head to 100000000000 ftlbs is the right way about it anyway.

The reason the bigger studs work better IMO is that they provide the head with basically 6 dowls to hold it true and keep it from twisting/lifting. Then you have the added area of the washers clamp load. These cars are not EVO's and what works on a closed deck iron block with not really mesh well on a semi deck in aluminum.
I mean you have evos/supras going 9s/8s on stock studs... It just cant be compared to a EJ motor.

Stock liners, P&L big studs and 40+psi have been through quite a few motors at P&L with no head lifting. Just watch the violent antilag on the 6spd car, that is what lifts heads.. No issues with it at all.

I have the 625 and ran 28-30 psi through my borg 75/70 (s200sx) for ~13k and had no headgasket issues

The first thing I did was call P&L for the studs. I saw a lot of fast cars running them, and figured it was a clear cut solution. They should work on stocking more of them. I called about them 2 months ago, I was told a month. I called a month later, and was told it was going to be another month. At this point the motor will be done in that time, and if I wait and call in another month... well you know the deal. Race season is almost here.

It's not like you were asking for an EFR from BW...

LOL I wouldn't dare. You have a better chance of finding the holy grail than getting some of those...

^^^up, just found the Holy Grail, now where's that EFR? That was child's work compared to getting an EFR

The only reason I haven't tried the P&L is Darton East (who I've been spec my builds through for the last 18 months), refuses to use them because of the tapping procedure. They don't like tapping over still existing threads. I've never tried the P&L's nor tapping, so I really can't varify but the numbers stack up.

That is hilarious. BW released a bunch of EFR's and the sizes were all stooopid.

My money is that when the good sizes are released everyone will have to buy them from full race. BW/Full race are gingerly touching their tips together behind the scenes.

To keep my post on topic, I'm a little biased but I'm running MAP H11's with OEM gasket.

Yeah, I think I have a set of MAP H11's on the way that I plan to stick into my 4" bore destroked engine. They'll be replacing the old ARP2000 hardware.

What kind of dish is on that 4" bore piston? What's your belief on higher power dish design?

Jr, same question to you.

P .S. happy weekend boost bros

It's just one of my old 4" setups, that is actually two crown generations old. It's a large quench pad with sharp break, shallow dish. It should be around 9.3:1 on my B25 heads. They're so old, the predate JE having FSR pistons

Junior, you have a text about the studs.

Two cars I've tuned 27-28psi on stock head bolts (reused). No heads lifting/coolant pushing through.

......

the amount of boost for dd cars keeps getting higher and higher each year,,,, as well as turbo sizes

I remember when people used to said that running over 22psi was crazy haha.

Junior run 40psi on his 100% stock long block with a HTA35r for a little while before he swap the engine

I did up to 29 on my arp2000's a while ago. Didn't seem to have any issues. Wonder how high Dom will go with the 625's hahaha. Not sure if my clutch can handle anymore torque lol
