Which is why I find the new FA20 turbo engine so exciting: lower displacement, relatively high compression + DI, turbo closer to the exhaust ports. Now, maybe Subaru addressed the aero issues but my guess is we'll still have a heavy power sucking drivetrain and fat tires :-).

Let the hype begin! Normally I don't care much for concepts as they are normally dumbed down heaps for production. But for the WRX, at the very least we should get an idea of the size/shape they are aiming for. As the WRX is meant to be all new, I'm expecting a 3 door as Subie will make a statement. This may be Subaru's "GTR" moment. I also guess there will be a 5 door, as sales would tank if you take the practicality away from the WRX. I personally can't wait to see this concept. I'm sure there will be flared arches, massive rims, big wings, big diffusers, maybe even carbon fibre bits.

I am still not sure Subaru will be concerned with 5 door utility with the new WRX. I thought they were trying to distance themselves from the Impreza, which has been their bread and butter car. Now with the new Forester, XV, and impress they don't need the utility as much.

I'm sorry....but anyone that complains about the STI mileage makes me laugh. Get a regular Impreza then. My gas numbers have been as advertised normally and only after tuning did I see a 2-3 MPG drop. If gas mileage is an issue any sport oriented car isn't for you. |

I don't think they would sell both a 2 door BRZ and an exclusive 2/3 door WRX. I don't think they need two tiny cars on the market. I picking a WRC inspired 3 door (will suit people such as yourself) and a 5 door hot hatch (will suit existing WRX fans). |

I had a WRX and it was a far better car on the street.. in every way. I spent 2 days at the track with the STI doing what the WRX couldn't do.. but the rest of the time it was just a pointless waste of gas... so, go ahead and laugh it up.. I've been there and done that (before you even found NASIOC apparently) and I know better. Oh, and calling it a "sport oriented car" is hilarious.. it's a hammer.. you've obviously never actually driven a sports car. |

I could see Subaru getting rid of the WRX sedan if they brought an Impreza GT or Legacy GT sedan. I think the rough-n-tumble image of the WRX fits better with 3- and 5-door hatches, but I think ignoring the sport sedan market entirely would be silly, IMHO.

I can definitely see that. I bought a WRX for that same reason....I was using my car more for street than track so it made more sense. My point was saying the STI is a bad choice because it's a "gas hog" is laughable because if you're looking at, or bought, a track oriented car (in this case a STI vs WRX as you chose) and gas consumption is one of your main gripes (my assumption since it's listed in your post) then you chose the wrong car. Gas consumption stops mattering at a certain point with car buying. The two have similar MPG ratings. Maybe you just mistyped your post and meant to say, "WRX vs STI go for WRX since I've owned both and the STI is a waste of money if you don't track it often since the WRX is a better street car for reasons way beyond gas mileage." Are you really trying to say the STI isn't a sport oriented car? If you believe that, why not just buy a base Impreza? We all took a hit in MPG as soon as we went turbo. Also, are we going to really use the, "I've been a part of the forum longer so I obviously know more" as an argument? Sorry I was born after you...you'll have to talk to my mom and dad about that. I'm only looking to upgrade to a STI because I got the autocross/rallycross bug. I'm in CO and rallycross/snowcross are very popular and I spend a lot of time doing these events. We have different reasons for purchasing our cars. That said, what STI did you own? I'm on the fence between a 06/07 with money left over for mods and a '13/'14. I sort of agree, except I think cars with rear seats without rear doors are silly too.

I have the 2011 STI and I love it. Forget mileage, it is a great do-everything car. Hauls luggage, people, pets, and ass around town. And yes, it is sporty - people love to argue the etymology of every word around here. But you'll be happy with it for sure |

Nah. I just have a weird feeling I'll be smiling about something about this new car. My thoughts are, why would they have taken this long on this if it weren't going to be spectacular? Just some good feelings. That's all. Sorry for stirring anything. |

The entire car/experience becomes a waste. Waste of gas, the hard/rattle suspension gets annoying, maintenance, etc. For what? It never sees a race-track making the entire affair pointless. I went through this relevation last year. I know udnerstand why people complain about hard suspensions, why people want comfortable cars etc. It caters to the 99.9999999999 percent fot eh time you're NOT on a track. |

I don't think they've been giving it extra time, I just think they've been busy. I imagine it's been quite a ride the past few years with so many important new vehicles launching. Though I do feel it will have been well overdue assuming deliveries begin summer '14. Anyhow, I hope they don't over-think it. |
