The published 1/4 mile times? Yes, the M5 has more speed and is better from a rolling start, but the Tesla has 0-10 MPH TQ that would be similar to what a 4wd system can add to a standing start 1/4.

My point is that little lies that aren't refuted end up being accepted as fact - add up all the lies and the Tesla gets the Kool-Aid following that it has. It is a fine car, for a battery-powered Camry or Avalon competitor. But to discuss the Model S as a competitor to an M5 or E63, or RS7, or anything in the 100K up area is ridiculous. Chop the price 50% and it would kick ass, which is what it seems like they want to do with this Model III. |

I'm missing the part where the Tesla III or any Tesla competes with anything here....

My neighbors have been in on this musical chairs stunt for 10 years and I have been kept up to date. I never believed they would achieve what they have (stock price), and at this point, neither can they - they keep laughing all the way to the bank, as Google-glass wearing Palo Altons finance these things... In the end, when image is society's foremost value, perception becomes reality, and by default, ignorance prevails. Capex=growth, right? New normal... |

Thing is, I have always heard the Model S compared against a 5 series in general. The M5 comparison is a new one to me.

1) Host states 0-100 MPH, 2 out of 3 times, not 1/4 mile 2) M5 was going much faster than the Tesla at the end 3) Tesla jumped the start 4) M5 had no traction on the 1-2 shift - TC off? And the mag tests confirm 0.5 secs and 10mph difference in the 1/4. Just not in the same league. Love how the host also casually mentions 300 miles of range, again simply not true. The truth about the performance is actually impressive - it bothers me that they feel the need to lie. Just say it stacks up well with many standard V8 sedans but is priced quite a bit higher, and needs to be charged. |

When Tesla S is on Nürburgring, other cars pay attention. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YJT4OtufDss

The Model S was rated at 320 miles on the old 2-cycle EPA test. |

2nd part: See the link in mhoward's post #105. One of a few range tests that have been done. another mag did one from LA to SF... Again, the results are impressive, no need to lie. |

I always laugh when I see the center display in the model s. It looks like someone is doing a build in the tesla motors website on an iPad. Sent from my iPad using NASIOC |

Hey. Guys. It's just an "artist's conception." No one knows what it's going to look like yet. Don't feed the crappy car rags with your traffic.
