Thanks everyone. I'm currently looking into it. This is what I'm thinking for prices. Please comment.
Flip Key Shell: $25 Legacy Key: $80 Assembled Flip Key:
^Both of the assembled options would require you to send in one of your keys for the transponder. They will be assembled with a blank blade. You would have to get the blade cut yourself. I'm not really interested in modifying blades to fit the flip keys, but I might consider it at a high price if people REALLY want it. Please let me know what you think of the pricing. I know the prices are higher than what you might be able to find on eBay, but if I am doing the work to source everything, I don't intend to do it for free. If everyone thinks these prices are way too high, then I'll probably call it off, because it's not worth it for me to do this for peanuts. I hope you can all understand. I'm cool with that. Do you have any idea how much it is to get the key cut?

I think someone mentioned $30 at the dealer, but some dealers are hesitant to do it. Another guy paid $75 to have a locksmith do it! I think all dealers should be able to do it, but you might have to convince them. I think prices can vary from dealer to dealer.

Yeah, I'd buy one too. The flip key is so much better than the all in one.

I'm fine with those prices, and I would be happy to pay $25 for the shell if you source it.
With that said, you are going to need a vendor account (If I remember correctly, it is around $1,000/year or so) because you'll get shut down on here without one. That is assuming you are actually doing this for a profit/business. If you just do this once and market it as a "favor", Matt A will probably let it slide. Just a heads up... |

That's a good point. For now, no more talk of buying/selling in this thread! I'd like to keep this thread up as a How-To for people to DIY the key. Everyone else hold tight and I will try to get the rest of the details together.

So I really would like to give this a shot.. and before I start buying things and what not...
You never mentioned anything swapping the keyless unit. I'm looking at the 3gwrx site and he shows that you got to take off the side (for hatches). Questions is do you still have to do this for the 2011's? |

2011 WRX + 2011 Legacy Key = No box and your OEM remotes work
2011 WRX + 05-09 Legacy Key = Yes box and your OEM remotes don't work |

I know this because i ordered a 2011 Legacy key from my dealer. I told them my VIN (because they cant cut it) and had SOA cut it. Well it came back and even though i gave them the right part number for a 2011 legacy key they sent a regular triangle key. They said Subaru cannot cut a legacy key for non-legacy car. So thats why i just ordered the part again uncut and went to a locksmith that cut it in 15 minutes. This was my workaround for it. |

I think some people on 3GWRX have gotten dealers to cut blades for them. I think you just need to find the right dealer and/or talk to the right person.

Will this work for a '09 WRX (hatch)?
Either way - awesome DIY! |

I would buy a switchblade shell and a Legacy key if someone can source them.

Finally found a place to cut the legacy key. unfortunately it is too late for the switchblade as I already hacked the valet key and expoxied it in. results aren't spectacular so looking to get another switchblade shell.
Xluben, I'd def be interested in a couple shells as well, let me know if you need any help with this deal. The switchblades are very nice quality as well. This is a reliable source for the correct 11/12 legacy key for us 11/12 wrx/sti guys. Ebay is not reliable as I now have been sent the 10 legacy key advertised as the 11 twice. This place is a bit pricey but you will get the correct key pretty quickly. http://www.remotesremotes.com/product-p/j30.htm |

why aren't you guys just buying the legacy keys from the dealer? subarugenuineparts and fredbeanparts both have them in stock and they're both vendors supporting this forum; seems like a no brainer to me.
