07 wrx VF39 or Vf43 or 16G help!
i have a 07 wrx and am wanting to do a turbo upgrade. It is catless stage 2 right now with the cobb map. should i dish out the extra money for the 16g or should i just get a vf? i can get one from my girlfriends neighbor once he swaps his turbo in his 07 sti. I just want the most cost effective and reliable turbo, that will give me good power.

If I had the choice between a used vf, or a normal 16g, the vf wins for me everytime. Now, an evo3 16g or 16g xt, now were talking a different animal. Good luck, and find/talk to your tuner.

I personally wouldn't go for the 16g on a 2.5 liter engine. Its 7cm^2 hot side will choke the engine and the power band will not be very good. OP, research, research, research, talk to your tuner, research again, then buy.

18g or 20g. I'm not a proponent for torque hits and no upper rev airflow.

1. Choose Start-->Shutdown on your computer.
2. Drive to 1925 State RT 72 North, Lebanon, PA, 17046 which is 30 miles as the crow flies from your present location. 3. Ask, touch, smell, lick every turbo at Blouch Turbo. 4. If you do not follow this advice to the letter, I feel sorry for your mother. |

I know I'm screwing over anyone who ever tries to sell a used turbo, including myself. Don't buy a used turbo unless you are willing to replace it at some point in the near future.

I went with a vf 48 on a STi. I've seen relatively big (300whp) numbers with a pro tune.

I pray you follow that advice as I was NOT kidding at all. Once you go there, you will see that you are in capable hands. They also have the NICEST bathroom of any vendor I have ever visited. And if you are really smart, you'll read this and send me a PM of a hot babe for more info.

To be fair, what a turbo looks like to an uneducated person doesn't mean ****. What he should do is find an experienced tuner and hash out what the benefits of different setups would be for him, and then make a decision based on what it is that he wants the car to be.

Personally I'd go VF39. Just because they are so cheap and easily to replace.

If you want to achieve around 280whp-300whp get the vf39 or vf43. I wish I went little bigger with a 16g. My tuner also recommended the 16g xt because I am more into low and mid end power.

I love my vf39, it was cheap upgrade and the car makes good power. The 39 will probably have the infamous waste gate crack, which mine is cracked and makes no difference. The 43s and 48s tend not to and are from new model years so they will have less mileage typically but will also cost more.

The Cobb map sucked balls compared to the pro tune...stage 2 pro tuned with the vf39 I made 290whp/350tq on a Dyno dynamics Dyno. Now with e85, external gate, big injectors, big MAF tube, ETS TMIC and some other goodies I am making 360/411 on a mustang Dyno. I love the power band the car has, it hits hard with the boost quickly and pulls through most the of the range.
