I just run the tank dry before I change the filter.

That way you suck up all the crap in the tank and deposit in the old filter, too. It's a win-win.

This is the way to go. Let the WD40 soak in a bit first.

That gets rinsed every time you fill up...don't worry about it.

I get a gallon or two of paint thinner and mix it in, myself. Better get some so I can mix it in on the next tank.

Sometimes a gallon or two of diesel can free stuff up, too. It's an oil so it seeps into the fuel line junctions and makes them easy to free up.

I used the pointy end of a large zip-tie, smeared some petroleum jelly on it and worked it up under the line. Just do that all the way around then it'll just slide right off. Use a twisted up paper towell to wipe any excess out of the line before you put the new filter on.

I second the vice grips + rag approach.

yep - i forgot step 1 and step 2

step 1 - disconnect the negative battery terminal

step 2 - remove gas cap

i did use a pair of plyers to twist the lines so i could pull them off by hand

1. Disconnect fuel pump fuse.
2. Crank car for a few seconds
3. Use padded pliers to take the tubes off.
4. Replace filter.

Not that hard

Ha, my hands are all beat to **** after removing the fuel lines from the fuel pump twice last night (forgot to reconnect the electrical plug on the pump after completely putting the car back together ) I was furious

The fuel filter hoses were not easy either.

It's actually really simple when you have the technique down. What you do is you get a small flatblade screwdriver and pry the edge of the hose up a little bit and spray some wd40 or brake cleaner in the hose and they come straight off.

you're all doing it wrong

I pulled the lines off my fuel pump on my 96 Outback with 160k for the first time last week.

WD-40 or PB Blaster, spray, wait, then some judicious pliers. Bingo!

You can buy a set of reverse pliers. When you squeeze the handle they spread whatever you have gripped. Makes short work of suby fuel line removal.
