Default 2.5i ej253 header puzzle

I've got rusted out headers on my NA subi. Took a peek underneath to check the setup then did a little searching for Headers. I'm confused. If I search for ej253 headers I get results for 02-07 headers that route to the passengers side of the engine. But the headers on my subi route to the drivers side and look more like the 05 2.5rs headers.

I got the car from an dealer, previous owner had clearly lowered and tuned the exhaust. I'm now wondering what else is going on.

Is this a common mod? Using RS headers on the 07s?

I'll replace with RS so I can bolt up with minimal additional modding, but wanted to check here first.

to make it easy, grab some borla replica headers and an rs-style cat section. this will route to where you need it.

can you post some pics of current setup?

sounds like the PO swapped to earlier manifolds to get the brbrbrbrbrbr sound rather than the arguably better power of the EJ253 stock manifold.

Thanks I'll go hunting for that, got any links (I know I'm being lazy now). I'll see what I can do about pics, but now that it's back home they'll be rough ( read as very close ups )

Bah!! Is that something that others have done? I do like the growl that the car makes but never thought someone would have gone through that much trouble to get it. (As you can see I'm still rather new to the subi life - don't plan on leaving anytime soon though)

Yes, there are people that have done it, as back in the day there were few/no header options for the "new" exhaust style. And it really isn't "that much trouble" at all - the '06/07 is the same chassis as the '02-05 cars, so it's very simple to install the '02-05 style header, cat pipe & mid-pipe.

Hah! Well that's good to hear. At least now buying the 05 headers won't feel like such a gamble. Now to find them... Thanks for solving the puzzle!
