My fronts could have stayed on but the backs of the pads were falling apart.
All 4 pads were stock pads, lasted 104k miles and 7 years lol |

Not sure about the previous owner but my commute has 2 stop lights and a roundabout for 40 miles with very little traffic. If they weren’t sticking and wearing down one pad vs both then I would probably still be running them.

Hearing a little growl/rattle with a/c on the last 2 weeks. Sounds like something is loose :/ hoping to get it into soa for spring and light. That'll get me a recharged a/c system and a reason to have them look/fix

Anyone have first hand experience pulling off the side skirts on the sport model? I found some old threads and it looks like there are about 8 plastic river type clips underneath then it just pops into some other clips mounted on the body.
Anyone take them off? Just looking to spray fluid film under there for the upcoming winter. |

How were the clips underneath? I don’t want to take it off if it’s going to end up being loose when I put it back on. Some of those clips get shredded or just don’t hold as well the second time they are used.

Hey all,
So I'm burning through Phillips xtremevision bulbs seemingly every 8 months. Put in a warranty claim last time and got a refund of the purchase price. Not sure they'll honor it a second time. I've tried the osram night breaker unlimited and now the xtremevision. Any halogen bright bulbs you're using that are lasting over a year in your cars? And yes, I could go the whole ballast led route but short on time and funds for that. Thanks |

I won’t recomend anything but the cheap bulbs, I can’t stand people with blinding lights out there, leds being the worst culprits.

I am not sure how you are installing your bulbs, but one noticable difference in life expectancy in bulb life is if you are putting your greasy pizza fingers on the bulb glass when installing them.
I had my stock bulbs for over a year, then changed them to h9 (brighter) bulbs. For another year. I was very careful not to actually touch the glass with my hands, instead I used paper or a tissue to install the bulbs in their sockets. Aside: If your still using h11 bulbs, try h9 (conversion) which entails slicing off a sliver of plastic to have them fit. No power issues what so ever. Slightly brighter but makes a huge difference for night time visibility. If you are worried about blinding the next man, don't be. The reflector design of the Impreza headlights has a cap which covers the end of the bulb from shining straight forward. Canadian imprezas got a HID bulbs with their packaging. So if you can run a crazy bright HID in the reflector housing, then surely a h9 halogen will be fine. Last edited by Pelco; 07-11-2019 at 01:48 AM. |

H9 lows, 9011 highs
Been running that combo since first week i owned it, 7 years now. I replace my h9s annually before they burn out. |

So today I purposely went out of my way to find a twisty canyon road to try. In the past I've driven a couple while on the way to some destination. In those instances I've always had passengers (mainly my wife who doesn't like the go-go vroom, especially in tight corners). I must say that it was a refreshing experience to push the car further than I normally do.
Here in Los Angeles, we have a bunch of pretty good roads for car enthusiasts. Only now do I have the desire to go find some after 3 years with my Impreza. Of course the impreza hatchback has 148hp and weighs about 3200lbs. Not exactly what most enthusiasts would think to canyon carve in. But we must remember that this chassis was built on a lineage of Subaru rally cars. Subaru purposely switched to using the smaller lighter Impreza when they originally wanted to use the legacy platform for rallying. This Impreza shares many of the underpinnings of earlier Imprezas and the outback sport. For all the quirks and intricacies, the car is really from a rally bread. It just happens to be sold and packaged stock as an economy car. I've upgraded my car in only a few ways. Mostly for feeling/handling, and creature comforts. Steering lockdown (less vagueness in steering) Sway bars (24mm front from the crosstrek) (22mm rear) Engine pitch stop (better throttle directness and feedback) strut bar (stiffer front unibody?) and of course tires. Firestone Firehawk Indy 500s, a sticky summer tire. I also did a little airbox hack with a fog light air intake. More engine feedback and gets more cool air when the car is moving. So with these modifications, I went to test my car. After three years I finally know that this car (stock tune 2016 CVT) has two power bands available. 2.8k - 3.5k, 4.2k-5.5k or thereabouts. I let the sound of my engine and exhaust tell me when the timing is furthest advanced and is in open loop. That bom-bom sound let's you know when the juice is on. Anyway. I had a lot of fun driving down up and down this canyon road. It was very twisty, with a few very sharp hairpins turns. I was never going fast enough to be in danger of sliding off a cliff. But still pushing a corner just enough to feel looseness once in a while. The directness of the steering (lockdown mod) and grip of the tires was really nice. The stock brakes are pretty good especially of you couple it with engine braking. During uphill a downhill I kept the revs up between 3k-6.5k. It really feels like a different car. Most of the time it is a reliable and utilitarian car, but drive it with some vigor and a hidden fierce side comes out to play. It can handle a tight technical hill climb very well (1st and 2nt CVT) And also do downhill well too. On this particular road, I was glad to have a little of the plush Subaru suspension. Anyone riding on lowered coilovers would have bumped and scraped in a few parts of the road. Anyway I just wanted to share that I really like this car. It handles very well now with the upgrades. It looks nice to me personally, and it's still reliable. For all the times I think, the grass would be greener on the other side (big turbo power!) I seriously still enjoy thumping the little FB20 that could. Remember "BOM-BOM" means you're in the go zone. Now that I know about those 2 power bands. It really makes driving this car more enjoyable. Naturally aspirated is just more fun to drive IMO. Rally on. Last edited by Pelco; 07-20-2019 at 01:45 AM. |

For it being so lacking in hp it really does most everything else well.
Mine is completely stock and I can’t say enough good things about how stable the car is. It holds the pavement (and snow) really well and is very straightforward. Not sure if the stock engine tune is the same for your model (mine is he 12’) but keeping it in D seems to make the cvt the most efficient, it will rev up to peak hp and stay there. Peak tq is around 5k and peak hp is at 6100. So you really want it revved as high as possible for speed. They say slow car fast is better than fast car slow. I wish I had more twisty roads on my commute, or time to go drive twisties. But this car would be a blast without stability on dirt/snow. Once I pay mine off I will be more likely to pull that fuse and let it loose. |

Has anyone had any oddities with the brake switch recall? I had it done a week ago, and this morning (tons of dew everywhere vs hot yesterday) when I looked out the window, all three brake lights on my '13 Impreza were lit up like a Christmas tree. They definitely were not on when I closed the shade to go to sleep.
A pump of the brake pedal turned them off, but WTF? |

I run 205/70R15 in the winter, good for a 0.7" lift by themselves.
Required some minor trimming of the inner part of the rear mud guards to avoid rubbing. |
