For the last few weeks now every time the car is cold and im starting out my brakes will squeal when applied the first couple of times and then won't do it again. Is it time to change pads? Are they covered under warranty? Car has 22k on the ODO.

Have a look at your brake fluid reservoir. Is the level pretty high still? If so, then your pads are probably fine. As your pads wear, the fluid level drops. If your fluid level is still high, then your pads haven't worn out yet. |

So interesting observation this morning, my speedometer is underreporting 1.8% and my odometer is underreporting 3%. With the stock tires only the odometer was off. I am going to test it with another GPS to verify this result

Civilian GPS's do not correct for ionospheric conditions, so sometimes they are "off" vs military GPS. I'd try it again like you mentioned.

Found out recently that a strut bar from a 08+ WRX\STI will fit on the new Impreza. From what I've read, they do little to nothing for a Subaru because of the chassis design. Can anyone confirm or deny if there's any benefit to a strut bar on a 2012/2013 Impreza other than aesthetics?

Nice catch, I'm not "intune" with my car yet and missed all but 1000 mile mark. My truck I just happened to look at right time for all major milestones.

interesting. with the stock tires on my odometer is just around 3% off (according to google maps routes 2.8-3.5%). my speedometer is pretty close to spot on although may be off up to ~1+% if i trust my wife's Garmin. (the speedometer reads either 0 or 1 mph too low compared to the garmin eg. 70vs 71, 60vs61, but not perfectly consistent; to the eye, sometimes, it reads the same)

Anyone else experiencing a "weird" initial start up from time to time? All weather conditions. The car may start fine, then drops off for a sec, then idles higher like normal. Or the car will slightt hesitate upon start up, then be fine. This is without the AC on or the front defroster, so no extra strain on the system. Car is a touch over 10k. I've driven a couple other Impreza Sports and Crosstreks and they all seem to do similar things. Also, this is the CVT. Aside from the odd startup, it drives fine.

Here is my data I recorded today, odemeter was at about 3.1% slow today, and speedometer was off. What boggles my mind is I checked the odo/speedo relationship probably 20 times with the stock tires and NOT once was the speedo off. both times I have driven the car after getting the new tires mounted the speedo has been off.
Now the tires are the same size 205/50-17, but they definitely look bigger. they fill the wheel wells much better (will get a pic later), the rev's per mile according to tirerack is 826 (yokos 828) so that isn't enough, they are a 25.1" diameter vs 25.2" (even though they definitely look bigger), but that isn't anywhere near 2% either. I will drive probably 600-700 miles this weekend so I can get more data speedometer data: MPH/Phone GPS/Garmin GPS 30/30.8/31 35/36.4/36 40/41.4/41 45/46.2/46 50/50.9/51 55/55.9/56 60/61/61 65/66/66 70/71.3/71 75/76.9/77 80/81.9/82 |

Further speedometer testing.
My Buick's sppedo/odo have always been prefect (fuel gauge is a different story, consistent, no where near accurate), anyway I put tires on it 2 years ago that at 1.6% larger so now it under reports speedo/odo by 1.6%. This morning it didn't matter what speed I chose, all were 1.6% faster on the gps. I will test the Subaru again tomorrow, but I have a feeling it will be off the same amount as yesterday |

People who add brake fluid as it drops, and then go to replace their pads/rotors often make a big mess when they squeeze the pistons back into the calipers, only to find that the brake fluid reservoir has overflowed. This causes a big mess that can be problematic (brake fluid dissolves paint, for example). |

I have searched for the answer with no luck. Can anyone confirm the oil filter is the same as the one used on the older motors? I have a case of the Subaru Blue filters and before I go ahead and change the oil, I just wanted to check

^^ There are different blue filters. You'd have to provide the Subaru part number before we could help you with this research.

I have a blue one on mine now. Car came with a black one, the dealer replaced with a blue one at oil change time.
Anyone know what brand oil Subaru uses factory and/or at the dealer? |
