Air assist injectors... what are they? whats it do?
How does this system work? What do they do? What are they? etc... The reason Im asking is that I just did an EJ25 swap into my impreza and I dont have this system hooked up yet.... anyone have a diagram of the system for either an EJ18 or EJ25? Or can anyone explain exactly how it works etc...

Which ECU are you going to use?
If it's a 99+ EJ25 ECU it will throw a code if the solenoid is missing. If it's any other ECU it will not have this 'feature' and so it won't care if the thing is not there. Blank it off, leave it disconnected, whatever. This thing seems to be some kind of evil uncle that noone wants to talk about... |

During cold start conditions it injects extra air into the exhaust stream to make the emissions appear more cleaner (by adding cleaner air mixture to modify the ratio of bad emissions in exhaust). At least, this is how it worked on my S2000. Once the car is warm I believe it shuts off. |

Since I've had to research what the Air Assist Injectors on my car are all about to figure out it's affect on Injector Scaling in my EManage Ultimate... I figure I might as well clarify for the benefit of others.
First of all, It's nothing to do with air into the exhaust stream. The Air Assist system on the 00-01 RS is a system designed to route air from the IAC valve directly to the base of each injector. During idle and high-vac cruise, the Air Assist Soleniod (just to the left of the alternator) will open up and allow a measured amount of air to feed from the IAC to the ports on the side of the intake manifold beside the injectors. The air is fed into the injectors, where it swirls and mixes with the fuel near the pintle. This increases the atomisation of the fuel as it enters the intake and is intended to increase fuel economy. |

I take it this feature is no longer found in the drive by wire cars since there is no IAC valve? |
