Flares on the wagon look good. Putting a "flare" on a car that has already been designed as a "widebody" car such as the GD sedan just looks stupid. Ever see someone with a rear lip spoiler and a wing also attached to the rear of the car? Also the BMW is interesting the way the flares are designed, nice in the area of the rear doors opening and closing. Nice wagon.

As far as I can tell they are pretty hard to come by... I think the only option is to buy straight from Germany (which isn't cheap)

Looks awesome man. OEM finish

I think you need to color match the front lip as well.

And sorry people, I never had a chance to work on the flares again. I am too busy with work and rebuilding the sti and I also have a legacy that I am trying to bring back to life. The wagon will have to wait for flares.

did you use any kind of flex agent with the paint? back from my old vw days, i remember guys who painted their flares had a lot of trouble with cracking if not.

Thanks a lot guys. I thought about painting the lip as well but decided against it. Maybe in the future, I have enough paint left over. The lip was the cheapest one I could find on eBay. Meant for an sti I modded it to work.

Still the biggest fan

But I didn't get, where you mounted them. Inside of the fender?

Mine are drilled into the sideskirt, fender lip, and bumper lip. I believe you end up with enough torque on the flare that drilling into the metal lip would be unnecessary.

OK, now I get it I need to drill them, they aren't already there? But as we like to say here "Sika regelt" (Sikaflex rules/ will do it). Sikaflex is a superglue.
I have a lip protection in the back (against rust etc)

It would be very cool to have twin cars running around on opposite sides of the world.

2. Line the flare up more or less where you want it and drill through both the flare( piece of material you left) and the inside of the fender.
3. Place a screw in that hole and secure that corner to the fender.
4. Pull/ stretch the flare by hand over to the other side. It's very flexible and won't break. Repeat step 2 on this corner.

At this point you will have each corner of the flare attached to the fender by a screw on each corner. As it is, it will naturally sit flat because of the tension of the stretch.

5. I then went about 3/4 of the way up and drilled a hole through the inside lip of the flare as well as the inside edge of the fender and secured with a zip tie. Repeat on the other side.

I don't have anything at the very top of the flare, it's really not necessary. Although, I have been playing with the idea of magnets, but I digress.
ill try this weekend to intall again. thanks for the tips.
